Sam440ep-Flex 800mhz and Radeon HD5670

With Liverforit-Mplayer-no-altivec and Mplayer-Gui
great playback with my test Xvid of 480x360 and composite output.
Video window can be resize up to to full screen size with no slowdown .
Fullscreen is great too. Due to the composite scaling performance seems better than Dvplayer .

@Spectre660

Excellent that works so well on Sam440, that good news.

So my Mplayer is working fine on AmigaONE-X1000,Sam460,Sam440.

Not so good on AmigaONE-XE/SE/Mini/Pegasus II

So, is this newer version of Mplayer by Liveforit that we should use from now on, even if we don't have an Altivec enabled machine?

@Nibunnoichi

Here is what I've just posted on Amigans:

Quote:
Clearly, LiveForIt's Mplayer port has been heavily optimized for the AmigaONE X1000. And for those using a G4 Amiga-NG, LiveForIt's Mplayer port is also the one to be choosen (the faster with Altivec enabled and p96_pip corrected).

But if you use a Sam440 with Radeon 9xxxx, Kas1e's MUI-Mplayer will be the fastest one with p96_pip (overlay).

Anyway, ATM, LiveForIt's Mplayer is the only choice for those using RadeonHD thanks to the compositing renedering created by LiveForIt, waiting for it to be implemented in MUI-Mplayer.

@Spectre660

Are you able to do exactly the same test on SAM440 + R9250? I'm very curious how old GPU with overlay compares to modern one with composition...

@mr2

unfotunately not.
My R9250 is busted.
Could you try it for me using the same video ? .
I can PM you with a link to the video that I used .
Or You can send me a link to a video to test .
The command line for the test would be
mplayer-no-altivec -nosound -benchmark -quiet -vo p96_pip yourvideo
mplayer-no-altivec -nosound -benchmark -quiet -vo comp yourvideo

@NutsAboutAmiga

On my Pegasos 2 with Radeon 9000 Pro your mplayer doesn't work (not the altivec version nor the general one): with the new gui when i start a video doesn't appear nothing and after half a second it stops (no grim reaper).
If I try to use mplayer via shell it still doesn't work and the shell say me that doesn't find pthread.library.

Mui-Mplayer works fine with my system: any suggestion?

@NutsAboutAmiga

Thank you for this great work.

Of course if you can squeeze out any more optimization for Sam's
I will be even happier . . It needs a little more to play back a vob
without so much frame skip .

@videoplayback

Good DVD/blueray blayback is "only" nice to have IMHO. (separate players exist after all)
BUT, from my experience the television/dvd player built in SWs are poor, so, it would be nice if amigalike OSs + SW could one day be usable as SW for television/player HW.

+Note: being able to nicely playback vides from web is anyway essential for a desktop computer.

So, thank you everybody who make video playback smooth on Amigas!

Sam440ep-Flex 800Mhz Radeon HD 5670 .

More Benchmarks using
http://www.amiga-ng.org/resources/Mplayer/Superman.flv
as in the linked thread below .
http://www.amigans.net/modules/xforum/viewtopic.php?post_id=89582#forumpost89582

Liveforit Mplayer
mplayer-no-altivec -nosound -benchmark -quiet -vo comp NTFS-DH5:Videos/Superman.flv

BENCHMARKs: VC: 64.370s VO: 32.349s A: 0.000s Sys: 1.007s = 97.726s
BENCHMARK%: VC: 65.8680% VO: 33.1020% A: 0.0000% Sys: 1.0299% = 100.0000%

Normal Playback of this flv with audio on my machine causes a big performance hit .

EDIT: problem caused by odd settings in MPlayergui

The Peg 2 numbers looks reasonable given its "AGP" 1x bandwidth bus (266MB/s being the theoretical max bandwidth, right?). I assume this is a 1GHz 7447 in the test, since a Peg 2 with a 600Mhz 750GX usually scores around 130MB/s (124MiB/s) in VRAM transfer tests.

But why is the X1000 figures so low?

After all it has 16 PCI express lanes, each lane should give up to 250MB/s, which adds up to 4 GB/s of bandwidth. But the X1000 numbers above is only about 2x faster than a Peg 2. Why is that?
