Have you tried adjusting the x86 gfx BIOS option in U-Boot . ?

Sure that works no problem, and Ranger shows it as the 8111 device that it is. Just tested that exact configuration for you. |
Thanks, my Ranger shows exactly the same. New emails sent. We will see if we are lucky this time ;)_________________ Sam440ep-flex 800MHz 1GB RAM R9250 128MB SB Live!

| The adapter is here, and yes it's exactly the same chip, PEX8111. Every video card has the same results as expected, meaning nothing works.

Yeah, I've already been through those options as per m3x suggestion, and no, nothing makes any difference with any card I've tried. I should probably make a reference page online since this thread is getting so long, for conciseness.

It would be great to see some different results. At the very least, if there is some combination that is known to work, it would be nice to have part/model numbers.
I'm not a disbeliever, or upset that this doesn't work. I'm just disappointed that even with a new UBoot update after all this time, it doesn't seem to have made a positive change for an end user. |

Drat! I'm waiting for the second email from Hans but looks like we are stuck If he replies, I will post some info tomorrow.

OK, some clarifications... AEon does not respond but I have some info from Hans:
- Make sure your power supply can supply enough power for your chosen card, and plug in the auxiliary power for cards that have an auxiliary power port - Perhaps the card needs to be in a particular PCI slot. The old A1-XE couldn't handle Radeon HD cards in the 66MHz slot - I remember one of the Entwickler-X guys using a PCIe to PCI-X adaptor instead of the PEX8112 (or something like that).
Plus I asked him a few things and:
> Is RadeonHD Lite (0.61) enough to test R5/7 xxx cards?
Yes, except for Oland cards (e.g., Radeon r7 240). RadeonHD Lite v0.61 is rather old. The latest lite version is 0.69, and 0.66 is needed for Oland support.
> I mean, is newer (3.7) RadeonHD driver better in terms od compatibilty? Version 3.7 is newer than 0.61, so there is a chance that more cards will boot with it. > If SAM440 passes UBoot and loads kickstart just fine, does it mean UBoot is OK and everything, from this point, relies on Radeon driver?
Yes. The RadeonHD driver is started after all kickstart modules have been loaded. From that point UBoot is no longer involved.
PCI-X to PCI-E adapter is unfortunately discontinued https://www.startech.com/en-us/cards-adapters/pcix1pex4x and I couldn't find any. So, there is nothing else we can do.
I have to wait for ES2.0 to be released because if UVD support is only for Polaris cards it makes no sense to try/test RadeonHD cards, for me....and there is no RX Lite driver. The last chance I see is ACube release info which cards work.

Does this include the PEX8111 or just the PEX8112 ?

Yes, cards based on the PEX8112 and PI7C9X chipsets work

I have bought it exactly from that seller. They are falsely advertised as PEX8112, they are actually PEX8111 based. Bradsco has 2 and I have 1

Yeah that's what I was groaning about. There's no telling what would get shipped.
The other thought that occurred to me is, if for some reason the PEX8112 is required for better compatibility, that becomes yet another problem because they're pretty impossible to accurately source.
The list of hoops to jump through just gets longer. |

| Add another card to the list.
XFX Radeon RX 560 4G (560P4S V1.0) - Does not work.
This time I even pulled the Sam from the case and used both the adapter with the extension cable, and without. Same results. UBoot never gets past detecting VGA, which for clarity's sake means that nothing else happens. No kickstart, no drivers, nothing. |

Would say by now that the issue is probably not with the Radeon RX cards.
Looks like the PEX8111 /U-Boot combination.

I disagree. If this were true, then none of them would work.
All tested with adapter and cable:
HD 6850 - Boots completely to Workbench
HD 7770 - Fails in driver R7 240 - Fails in driver R7 250 - Fails in driver R7 250 # 2 - Fails in driver R7 250X - Fails in driver R9 280X - Fails in driver
RX 550 - UBoot fails to recognize RX 560 - UBoot fails to recognize RX 570 - UBoot fails to recognizeLast edited by Bradsco on 24-Jan-2021 at 09:51 PM.

Maybe one day somebody will post results of a test with a PEX8112 and an RX550 or RX560 and we will see if they have been able to get past the U-Boot phase .

If someone could find a guaranteed source of a PEX8112 adapter, I'd buy one today to do another round of testing.
Maybe there is an instance of some card working like this which prompted the statement that this is now possible. But given the difficulty in finding a combination of parts that works, it is completely impractical. |

I will drop an email to VirtuaVia shop. It looks adapters are available...
I hope ACube will come up with the proper adapters. As a mobo manufacturer they certainly have their sources.

| I updated Uboot in my sam440flex rev 2 mobo, purchased the radeon hd version 2 driver (Enhancer plus) downloaded and installed the radeon hd V2 driver. Added line to kicklayout file. Changed the uboot x86 compatability to "complete". Modified screenmode prefs monitor tab to detect automaticaly. Renamed the DEVS:Monitor/Radeon 9250 to Radeon. Also updated the tooltypes from Radeon 9250 to Radeon and changed the tooltype length to match.
Installed a Diamond Radeon HD 5450 (LP) with PCI to PCIe adapter (Using DVI)
Upon booting, UBoot shows up on the monitor, but after the Amigaos 4.1 final logo shows on the screen..... The system reboots again. Does not boot into workbench.
If the card works with UBoot it should work with workbench, right?
What am I missing here???
Workbench is running fine with the Radeon 9250 at 1920*1080 60hz.
