If anyone is interested in the New Radeon HD 2D Driver for use on Sam440ep-Itx and Sam 440ep-Flex machines here are some results from Hans GfxBench2D Benchmark program.

The first one is for a PCI Radeon HD card. (This one is not mine)
Wonder if the user had the Acube Sam440-Setup program running ?.

http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/OS/AmigaOS/Result/854

My current results with a PCI to PCIe adapter and PCIE Radeon HD cards.
The adapter is listed as supporting 33MHZ PCI speeds but the results for read/write seem better than PCI based cards on the Sam440's .
I have the Acube Sam440ep-Setup program running .

http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/OS/AmigaOS/Result/1210
http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/OS/AmigaOS/Result/824
http://hdrlab.org.nz/benchmark/gfxbench2d/OS/AmigaOS/Result/1014

This is the PCI to PCIE Adaper that I am using

Can you please confirm that you are using the new Radeon HD drivers on a *Sam440*? I thought it might not work, so great to hear it is possible!

@ribdevil

I got the adapter here
http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-32-bits-1-x-pci-express-adapter-.html

The driver from Aeon here
http://a-eon.com/?page=radeonhd

Note this is not for you if you want to run 3D games or watch Movies.

I hope that if more people are interested Amigakit will come up with some combos for sale.

@ChrisH

I have the idea that A-Eon could recoup their investment costs in the Radeon HD driver
fastest is they offer an option for Sam440ep users as there are more of us than Sam460ex and X1000 users .

@Spectre660

Obvious question, but I assume the Radeon HD cards must be small form factor to work in that adapter and still fit in the case. Do you have a link or photo of the specific card you're using?

@MickJT

Links to best images I can find.

The fan of the current one covers the second PCI slot but I did not buy this one to use with the adapter.

Largest video card that I ever owned. Needs a 6pin power connector, leaves the second slot open.

@Spectre660

Hi, a friend give me a Radeon HD6450 card, and found a PCI-PCIe Bridge whith the PEX 8112 chip, and looks like the board in your link, so I think it works with the new RadeonnHD drivers.

I install the drivers frron A-EON, make a new monitor in devs named "Radeon HD6450" with the same tools like radeon 9250, except "BOARDNAME = RADEON HD6450".

Change the graphics board, and start theSam.
The UBoot starts, and load kickstar, but when finished the loading, the SAM hangs on, the boot logo don't appears, the hard disk don't blinks and the keyboard reset don't work.

Can you help me ?.

I put the old 9250 and Samy runs fine.

Thanks

@ribdevil

Hi

I have the Monitor file named Radeon and it works either for the 9250 or the Radeon HD cards. Here are my active tool types in the Monitor file .
CMPLENGTH=6
BOARDNAME=Radeon
DDCMODE=ALL
INTERRUPT=Yes
This should get you up
.
Another thing to be careful of is to make sure the Bridge card is properly seated in the PCI
slot. I use a long screw at the top of the case mounting and have taken off the mounting bracket of the bridge card. So the top of the screw holds the mounting bracket of the Graphics card and the bottom of the screw is connected to the top of the Case bracket screw hole.

Ok. Good luck. its really is fun once you dont need to run games or movies.
I may try to get two cards to run at the same time , the second being a 9250 .
but it may take a rollback of Uboot to a much earlier version.

@Spectre660

Hi, Spectre.

I have two Radeon HD series boards, one PCIe ( HD6450) and one PCI (HD5450), and the radeon HD for the Sam460 drivers, but with both cards my SAm440flex don't star.

I see the UBoot star and load the kickstar, but stops at the end of load.

My sistem is :

Sam 440flex at 800MHz
UBoot 1.3.1e
AmigaOS 4.1u4
RadeonHD drivers for 460 (buy it and download from A-EON)
I have a monitor in devs named "Radeon", it works fine with the 9250

You have your cards works, so maybe, you can help me, what it's wrong ?

Thanks

@ribdevil

You need a seperate monitor file for the RadeonHD cards. Tooltypes should look something like this;

CMPLENGTH=18
BOARDNAME=Radeon HD 2400 Pro
DDCMODE=All
(VSYNCMIN=60)
(VSYNCMAX=60)
(HSYNCMIN=31000)
(HSYNCMAX=85000)
(MODE=640x480@60)
(MODE=800x600@60)
(MODE=1024x768@60)
(MODE=1280x720@60)
(MODE=1280x800@60)
(MODE=1280x960@60)
(MODE=1280x1024@60)
(MODE=1440x900@60)
(MODE=1600x900@60)
(MODE=1600x1200@60)
(MODE=1680x1050@60)
(MODE=1920x1080@60)
(MODE=1920x1200@60)
(FAKENATIVEMODES=No)
INTERRUPT=Yes
