@Darrin

Heheh... Once had a below low budget Soundblaster card with 3 black 3.5 mm jacks... it always was trial and error connecting the right out put . Funny thing is, it was always the last socket I tried that ended up to be the right one.....

I was on the phone to Chris Follett at Amigakit when I had no sound from the green port of my X1000.
He nonchalantly said try the blue one. No stress, no issue no elaboration as to the reason why.

I was so pleased to have sound, that I didnt even quiz him on why that is the case...

I have to say that this is not really a problem as long as one knows beforehand to use the blue socket instead of the lime green.

When the on-board sound is working and I can remove the sound card I might try painting the sockets on this sound card to the correct colors so down the road someone attempting to use this sound card won't have this same confusion. Either that or trash it. Of course, it might be fun to try rewiring it before trashing it.

Lucky you! You must have gotten a different sound card. Or if it is the same card they sure screwed up the wiring on these later cards.

Of course it was. Why would you keep on trying once you found the right one?

What sound card does the X1000 come with?
I have a Sweex CMI8738 card in my XE and it produce good quality and has a working SP/DIF output. Would it be possible to swap this (PCI card) into the X1000 if I happen to not be satisfied with the one installed?

Why wouldn't it be possible?

@Deniil715

I replaced the cards from x1000 with the ESI Juli@ i had in the A1. Both worked. So i sold the A1.

So i dont think you would have any problems using yours. Test and trial :)

Since the AHI drivers are the same on the x1000, your card should just work.

@all

I have a kvm switch between my micro & x1000, it also switches the audio output between the 2 to my wireless headphones. I used the green plug on my x1000 SBLive0220 & it worked, but I noticed when both systems were on, I had a low hum on the x1000 side. I decided to try the other plugs & found the brown plug to work with no hum. So add another color to the mix.

All said, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that audio cards are built wrong, we just need to connect up what works for each of us.

Now I finally got it! :

Seems to work fine, but I had some audio hickup. When I tried playing the system beep while adjusting its settings, the sound prefs locked up, and after that no sound worked and all programs trying to play sound locked up.

After a reboot the startup sound played, with a slight scratch when the WB screen was opening, but then it seemed to work. The soundcard is a CMI8738 based card, but much simpler than what I have in my A1-XE so I will swap them. I'm wondering if there are some gfxsound issues here, just like sound+3D on the XE used to have before I threw out the SandBlaster.

Also the kickstart loading, although having a very nice boot logo, seems to happen in PIO0 mode, taking the usual 7-8 seconds like on the XE. That was disappointing. I had at least hoped for PIO4 like the Sam boards use, taking about 0.5 secs.

I very much doubt that: I think someone would have noticed before now! (I don't however have an explanation for your problem either.)

This means the sound card is not following convention. We should not have to guess what works for each of us.

Great! I am happy for you. You are going to love it. Did you select the blue socket for your speakers?

I did not experience that problem.

My boot sound has a scratchy sound near the end also. How to fix?

curious. i have never came across a soundcard that has not followed convention. i mean every socket has its purpose, right? the usually a sound card should not provide such options as blues socket without hum and brown socket for those that prefer low hum, just output, input, mic and the like..

@wawa

There is always the possibility that there is nothing different about the sound cards, but that the users are all colour-blind.

On my x1000 the boot sound is also scratchy. The same file plays fine when played later with AmigaAmp.

Did anyone resolve this scratchy boot sound?
