Was quite surprise to get a tweet from Amiga inc that they have launched a number of apps of classic Amiga games for the blackberry, quite surprise by some of the titles, did they really get permission from team17 and other companies to relaunch these games.

@amigang

Good luck to them, I say ... though Blackberry are hardly riding high at the moment.

@amigang

Are these real apps or are they just Amiga emulation wrappers playing the games?

It wouldn't surprise me that they compiled UAE in Java or AmigaDE and bundled it together with a game.

That said suppsoe I should take a look.

@Hypex

There is probably no money to be made on android as we have UAE4Droid and the adfs can be found on the Dream17 website for free download.

@amigang

Amiga Inc. is a company(?) with no real technical know how. They have no employers that would port games for them. I'm doubting they have someone, who could write an Amiga game player based on UAE now, but IMR they offered some kind of Liunx+UAE+Amige game package 3(5) some years ago.

I bet this is just the old "pay for the name" scheme they did with iContain, Commodore USA, Eyetech, Hyperion-Entertainment and Genesi for the last 12 years.

@Arko

That was not exactly what I meant.
I have in fact no Idea who is the guy behind Amiga Inc now.
Isn't it someone à C=USA?

About latest AmigaDE, I had the beta version of anygaanywhere v2 (aka amigade), that product was completely different and based on new technologies (no more TAO intent), that was a good product, but nothing seemed to move since that release and that was as you said something like 2 years ago.

I'm Too lazzy to inquiry former contacts at amiga inc;)

I don't know but Qwak is still supported by the original developer and currently available on Windows, Mac and iPhone. I've just fired off a quick email to let him know.

CUSA ? I don't like CUSA but unlike Amiga Inc. they are selling computers.

It doesn't matter what name the guy behind, Amiga Inc. has, they still offer the same thing they tried to sell for years:

Licences for their Amiga brand

Oddly enough I have just been chatting to a former Amiga games developer on Facebook about these games (he's very closely associated to some of these titles) and he is strongly of the impression that for some of the titles Amiga.inc are trying to sell here, that they have no rights to use any of the copyright, IP or even game name titles that they currently have up for sale...

He's emailed them about this and is hoping to get a reply but he's not a happy chappy about this as he's firmly of the belief that certain titles being sold here do not have the appropriate permissions given...

(Where's the Copyright Mafia when you need em)...

@Franko

This reminds me a recent newspaper article saying that there is some kind of blackmarket regarding small compagnies IP that can be summed up as this:

When both compagnies are small and in different countries, with a small wallet, it is as difficult as moving a big mountain to obtain payment for a copyright infridgment.

Anyway, it's more fun playing "cadaver" on a big screen than on a phone toy that would make my eyes bleed after an hour of gameplay;)

surely mcbill wouldn't farm out development of these games without securing rights to do so. he's not that bad, is he? i mean, barry altman, OK, i can see that, but not mcbill. after all the legal shenanigans, surely he knows better,

You would think not. But people can be silly when it comes to making quick money. All the support emails go to amiga.com. I know Team 17 did put some of their games up for freeware. Not sure which ones though.

@DC_Edge

These games are all for the Blackberry Playbook tablet, not the Blackberry Phones. Even so, controlling these games without a real joystick will be a PITA.

They're certainly not re-implementations, so it must be a UAE build that auto-launches the original game.
