Thanks for explaining. It was worth persevering, glad it's working now. Quite interesting. Just one question though as I missed the introduction due to sound issues.
Q. Who is this AmigaOS roadmap guy?
I thought Hyperion were all Belgium folks.

He just said he wasn't paid by Hyperion, so I guess he's a contributor?

Steven Solie is Hyperion's AmigaOS Team Lead - he coordinates the developers and is reponsible for delivery of the AmigaOS releases. He does many other things behind the scenes that go unnoticed. _________________ Amiga Kit Amiga Store Links: www.amigakit.com | New Products | A600GS |

| Anyone not knowing who Steve Solie is needs to do some research about AmigaOS4.x, Hyperion and what is currently happening over the last two years, or more.

Yep, you are right: we don´t deserve to know any news or that "luxurous" video streaming that we pretend about what's going on because we MUST go and "live the experience" there.
Our lives, families, jobs, personal circumstances, like we may live in the other side of the world DON´T MATTER AT ALL.
LET'S GO ALL HAND IN HAND, WALKING IN THE SUNSHINE, TO SACRAMENTO!!! Last edited by vision on 20-Oct-2012 at 08:54 PM.

He wasn't at the Vintage Computer Fair at the launch of the X1000 in 2010. I am quite aware of the core members of Hyperion but less clear on how they develop or indeed make money out of AmigaOS. Hence my blind spot. I've followed hardware more than software.
Interested at the Steam model question. Shame of the proprietary nature of it all. I suppose we're stuck with www.os4depot.net? _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Steven Solie: "They just want to push a button and do what they do. They won't come back. They don't want to know how stuff works."
Very sad but probably true. Surely the idea that computers can be easy to use 'tools' that you can tweak and learn about is a far healthier of approaching computing.
Very good Q & A session. A good introduction to the work of Steven Solie and what the AmigaOS team does behind the scenes.

Steven seems like a great guy and a true Amiga fan. I liked his down to earth approach and realistic view of things. However, aside from the warp3d info that I missed from this morning (UK time) the roadmap presentation did not offer anything new. Last edited by ddni on 20-Oct-2012 at 09:36 PM. Did not mean to be harsh with my reply, but I thought almost everyone who has any interest in AmigaOS4.x knew that Steve Solie has been the Lead Programmer for Hyperion for the last 2+ years.
As an off topic side note, it is great to have Beth Richards here this year. She is a former Commodore Amiga hardware engineer, who worked on several Amiga projects, including the CDTV-CR and the CD32. She worked on the "Grace" and "Beauty" chips, as well as many other aspects of the CDTV-CR and CD32 projects. It was really entertaining and informative to listen to her speak to a small group of people huddled around the table where her Amiga computers were being tested and worked on Friday night.
Beth brought in a bunch of her Amiga gear that had been "Resting" in her closets and needed some TLC to get running again. Her kids broke the plastic hinge on the CD32 drive door, so she had to take it away from them for a while. She told us of her last days at Commodore and the bargain prices she paid to purchase 3 A3000D computers for herself and members of her family, plus networking cards, A500's for the kids, keyboards, mice, etc., all for pennies on the dollar, to clear out the Commodore offices when the end arrived. Luckily, she had already accepted another job just a few days before the layoff notices were sent out to everyone, so instead of her walking in to give her notice that she would be leaving soon, she was able to pick up her benefits check for being laid off.
Being here is the only way to meet some of these extremely interesting people from the Amiga's past, that just show up at random to many of the AmiWest Shows. _________________ Amiga! The computer that inspired so many, to accomplish so much, but has ended up in the hands of . . . . . . . . . . |

Before this you asked; Quote:
What about a european version of Amiwest?, say in London or Germany, perhaps Hamburg or Berlin would be perfect. Whadda people think?

At the same weekend when some few people met in Sacramento, there was an Amiga related meeting in Bad Bramstedt, just 450 km away from the capitol city of your country. It is probably the biggest "Amiga" meeting near you, maybe bigger than AmiWest and you missed it.

Now I repeat the most negative thing I posted to you in this thread:
There are enough meetings near you for people interested in Amiga, you will find them if you have open eyes and an open mind.Last edited by Arko on 22-Oct-2012 at 09:32 PM.
