Simple... TVPaint for 24 bit, personal paint for 8 bit, sketchblock if I could actually draw ;) _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

Personal Paint, although its a bit unstable on my X1000, specially screen revolution changes seem to cause different graphical errors on OS4, but it fine under emulation so it is my go to program for a quick graphics.
Deluxe Paint 5 I fail to get running on OS4, I know there are solutions I just not had the time or real need to get it running on OS4.
Haven't actually tried Lodepaint yet, and TVpaint and Perfect Paint I have got them but never really use them.
SketchBlock is a very good start (note to self to download update) but its bit unfair to pitch it ageist these heavy weight programs.
PS: Nice idea this "Best of the Amiga" programs. Last edited by amigang on 29-Oct-2012 at 11:16 AM.

you'll need to use blitzen to get it going. there was something else, but i've forgotten. is @scabit around? if anyone remembers the recipe, it'll be him. dpaint III and IV are fairly straightforward to start, though.

thanks! it's been way too long since we were talking about cool software to play with rather than absurd politics in the community around here. and when done we'll have a nice guide to refer folks new to next-generation amiga computing to so they can find the coolest kit quickly and easily. already started on that piece over at intuitionbase; hopefully folks will find it useful.

I don't think so, and you'll note that it's allready pushed the "has beens" into last place
Please let me know of the features you need that SketchBlock currently lacks (download the new update first as it adds quite alot) and I will either explain how to do it with the exisying version or add it to the todo list. (No promises on when it get implemented or whether it's in thwe form you want though ...)

photogenics is pretty sweet; it's been nominated in the best image editor category. i still use it on my SAM as well as my pegasos2 systems. make certain to head over to that thread and vote!

I had a tiny collection of programs for my A2000HD. Now after many years, I am slowly collecting programs that were considered to be "old favourites" by many Amiga enthusiasts.
On my MicroA1, I use TVPaint, Personal Paint and the old Paint program from the Amiga Appetizer collection. The first two work fine launched directly from OS4. The Appetizer collection works fine with E-UAE and AmigaOS 3.1.
I do not have Deluxe Paint or Perfect Paint.
I tried an earlier version of SketchBlock and liked it, but have not tried the latest version.
I think I have a very early version of Lodepaint. It croaks shortly after opening the main window.
Brilliance v2.0 appears to work ok with E-UAE and AmigaOS 3.1.
However, I could not get Brilliance v2.0 to work directly with AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 and never persued it further. I always got a small message window that I think was telling me that I did not have the correct screen mode.

Not sure if you ever saw this, but I fixed your problem with not being able to read requester buttons in Dpaint5 ...
Quote:
To get the text for the buttons in requesters in DPaint5.2 to be readable, run modepro and set it up to trigger on the program name DPaint. In modepro, change the settings for DPaint to use a 640 x 480 256 color screen. In modepro, select 3D look, then change the "background" color in the scroller underneath to "2". SAVE! Now, when you run DPaint5.2, selct a P96 fakenative 640 x 400 screenmode. Dpaint requester buttons will now have black text on a white background. |
Hope that helps....AFAIK all that remains not working is anims (although they load sort of if you use blitzen) and color cycling using the tab key...I never did get that working.

Perhaps you mean this:
Be sure you are running Dpaint 5.2 In GUI prefs: Planar on RTG enabled In Compatibility prefs: Add DPaint and dpcpublit.library to the list of disabled applications (no-JIT) Select one of the 640x480 fakenative p96 modes such as 21000 or 29000 (some other modes might work)

yup! thanks! i really need to allow for more extensive comments in our compatibility databases so we can have longer instructions like this.

Thanks. DPaint must be snakebit on my system, because even after following the outlined procedures with 5.2 I get a DSI at launch after picking a fakenative mode and soon after a lockup if I proceed. I have better luck with DPaint 4.5. However, the main appeal for me would be 2D animating, and so without that working Personal Paint will remain my go-to application for such tasks.
However, I am having a different problem with PPaint on my X1000 where the cursor is leaving trails of trash on the screen. It doesn't do that on my Sam440, so I'd like to get to the bottom of that at some point.

1) Brilliance 2 2) TVpaint 3) Deluxe Paint
other software limited experience of :)
Listing all the features of each application we like then implementing them in eg. New Sketchbook ;)
One of the developers could setup a fund raiser on www.ulule.com and I will promise to donate :)
