| just one funny thing is how in an instant a hardware that was always too expensive and too slow to bother appears now worthy for some, at the same time admitting second hand one could have drawbacks. on the other hand os4 fans always wanted mos on sam so this remains consequent. i for my part welcome both aros and mos ports to sam, even if i will hardly invest into it. my opinion stays as it was, even if some arguments between camps must be buried now. and thats definitely a good thing. |

| To me, this announcement can be read in many ways. First of all, whether I like ACube's products or not, without a doubt, they are working hard for the Amiga fans. I am sure this was a paid job and as such more kudos to them, for investing repeatedly money on the market, both hardware and software (OS) wise!
Is this hardware a new platform chance for MorphOS? No. Because in overall there will be little to minimum difference between a Sam460 and a PMAC G4/G5 that costs around 80% less (and in many occasions might end up being 30-50% faster). Modern Ram's interface and SATA won't make an impact to OSes relying on raw processing power in most cases/important tasks. Will the PCI-e be prove to be the only selling point for the Sam460/MOS combo? For its current price, I am sure it won't (hypothesizing that the PCI-e will be supported, otherwise it is meaningless).
Regarding MorphOS, I believe that it will end up with very little new licenses due to the fact that Sam460 is being bought for the sole purpose of running OS4 and since MOS won't be coming as mandatory there will be no severe affect on the number of registrations/users converting. The excuse "Someone can try it more easier", doesn't really cut it when MorphOS is available on an extensive PPC machines already, easily purchasable.
Finally, I hope that all this work won't stall down MorphOS evolution. We are still eagerly waiting for the R300 chipset and G5 support. Let alone the final detach from the dead PPC platform to new and mainstream architecture. Finally, I sure hope that MorphOS won't be renamed to BigfootOS since, if I am reading correctly, he is the only one making the hard work lately xD _________________

See this and make your own conclusions I dont think MorphOS port has much impact to SAM460 sales but more or less it should help Acube to sell few more units to customers who are pondering between OS4 and MorphOS.

I don't see Sam460 as a viable MOS platform, but it will offer current and future owners a possibility to try out MOS for free... And buy it, should they wish so.

"dead PPC platform to new and mainstream architecture."
So you love x86?
UC, beyond cell phones, the mainstream is x86 and PPC.
@thread It's very good if you can also use new HW with MOS for business uses.
Next surprice would be A-Eon to get MOS to x1000 when giving RadeonHD+Warp3D support to MOS. Last edited by KimmoK on 02-Dec-2012 at 11:29 AM.

>Good news for Morphos (another low spec hardware platform)
An entry level cpu maybe, but RadeonHD cards could now be used, if MOS has drivers like OS4.x Which is not possible om my Pegasos2. |

Good news everyone, that way, people interested in both (both being all three flavours) OS's can have a available platform without resorting to 2nd hand Pegasos hardware. Used Mac hardware can be found easily but it's not a choice for those wanting all the options in one machine.

Insulting lesser people like MOS users is like saying hello to OS4 users. And lately seems like it's sanctioned by mods. And no... Adding smiley doesn't make magically turn insults funny. |

dont get it either. care to explain? usually you can explain jokes to those who dont get them, you know. otherwise it definitely looks like name calling. actually it should be reported immediately. but except os4 users that hit report button all the time, as i mentioned lately, we all others are just too cool and tolerant, arent we? |

Nothing like that is "sanctioned by mods". You know where the report button is so use it, otherwise find another site to frequent.
We don't hang around in the forums all day. I'm on a 4 week business trip at the moment so I only look in a couple of times a day and then only at the threads that interest me._________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

All sides hit the report button (and I should know), sometimes for no good reason, sometimes for a damn good reason. Unless someone does hit it then the Moderators can't look at post.
The only reason I'm here editing Antique's posts is because someone else reported another user's comment in this thread and then I saw you lot complaining.
Now, can we get back on topic?_________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

Commnet by Mod...
OK, that explains the "joke", now let it drop.Last edited by Darrin on 02-Dec-2012 at 05:54 PM.
