@Hypex

Another interesting option might be network install option.
Minimalistic AOS4 (boot CD, USB pen drive, SD card, Flash on board) could be used to enable the network install to u6 level.

No way i wait forever for bigger updates when i can get smaller fixes now and then.

i can download aros68k update (iso nightly) every day. and its all in all 20meg, so it doesnt really matter. rollback and file by file update is a nice feature, but only if it really works. ms can do that, but i fear it cant be tested enough in a really tiny community//platform. just saying.

Yes, if I am understanding what you mean

You do understand what I mean. :--)

Actually, I never read that there was an Update 6 Base and an Update 6 Full.

There wasn't really. I just made it up!

But I needed someway to explain the more complicated system we have now where an Update doesn't mean an Update anymore. Given an update can be updated over the net now there is no baseline to compare it too.

I know the OS developers prefer version numbers but this is ridiculous! Now users have no numbering system to refer to their OS version. All an update means now is "greater than or equal to" that update.

I believe you said Update 6 came with AmiUpdate v2.22.

Yes, that's what I found when I looked inside Update 6. But is there a different Update 6?

Here is my MD5Sum:

Whatever version it was I used it to update my system files and eventually update to AmiUpdate v2.24

Okay that makes sense.

Quote:
I'll take your word for it that it was AmiUpdate v2.22 because I really don't know.

You can check for yourself. If you show all files and look in the NoArch section of Update 6.

I always seem to wait a week or so after something is released, perhaps longer,

That is what I did here but it didn't work out so well.

Are you suspecting that they corrected an error in the archive a day later and said nothing about it?

I do suspect something like that, if not in AmiUpdate iself then in the system somewhere. In the crashlog it looks like AmiUpdate, which loses its name BTW, give an invalid list pointer to Exec. Or similar.

Then follow on with the other system updates after rebooting. I don't know if that is right or wrong, just my way of thinking.

I agree. But in my case the "correct" AmiUpdate crashed. Guess we can move on now.

exactly, i never understood why leave the tiresome and error prone process of updating 5 updates with each other to the user instead providing him with someting working out of the box. perhaps an anti piracy measure. i dont know.

@wawa

Problem of available time to update iso images for 6 or so platforms.
Amiupdate should now ease the way forwards.
I see the need for an updated CD for the Sam440ep (Flex) platform only.
The Flex is still being produced and Radeon 9250 PCI cards are hard to find.
An updated CD with the last free version 0.32 of the Radeon HD driver that is available for the Sam460ex would be nice.

Not until you get yours working. Or did you?

aros supports much more platforms, isos being updated accordingly every night. alone aros 68k supports all 68 processors out of the box via aros setpach. no library mess. no problem.

@wawa

AROS has nothing to do with AmiUpdate. The former is an OS and the latter is a software updater product. Don't derail discussions.

I did. I rolled back to the x2.22 that was installed from the Update 6 archive with the new blue updating logo. I then used it to update my system fully over the net.

I rebooted. And then tested my other v2.32 in Utilities and it worked! I then ran the System v2.22 and told it to update. It updated itself so the System one was v2.32 also and it worked!

Oh good! Then you were just curious about what went wrong and why.
