Well the little lady has a new psu now.

I also improved the airflow ibside the tower, by moving sone wires aside, catching them with tire ups.

I am ussing the new memory stick I bought and the battery bas been changed some months ago.

The machine seems to run more stable now, I did more tests only to come across one freeze after an eight hour hardcore test with video and wipeout playing at the same time, owb, mame and wookie running together and hardcore stuff lime this.

I bave also re loaded the screen blanker.... On earlier stages the machine would freeze after screen blanker loading... Ok the machine would go on sleep mode but it would not return on active mode if I left it untouched for some hours, frozen, no soft reboot possible, no sign of life from keyboard aka caps lock activity for example.

Now even the screen blanker works ok....

Do not know if she is ok now, but I am keeping the hope strong....

Would keep a look at the lady, I wish that I would find someone locally to change the stock cpu fan for me also, I have seen this mod and it is great.

A friend of mine will also pass me a usb 2 card with nec chip... Hopefully it would work...

I will meep you posted..

@Morphix

Be aware that OS4 itself is buggy, particularly the kernel which can sometimes hang causing a freeze, particularly in low memory situations.

Have you had a look inside your old PSU? My A1XE was freezing randomly too (even with no programs running - i.e. CPU unloaded), and on checking inside the PSU I saw that of two identical capacitors that were positioned next to each other, one of them had a slightly domed top while the other was flat, which is good sign the PSU was either faulty or was going to go bang sooner or later. Sure enough, replaced with a brand new PSU a few weeks ago and no random freezes since. Obviously would be useful for you to verify that your PSU was faulty, for peace of mind at least .

@Morphix

For a new drive it's very simple since there is no existing RDB. Put the slb in place. Add at least one bootable partition, save.

@Thematic

Thanks, for the case that there is an RDB already?
Also which SLB I must use? I remember there was a button on the media toolbox which got me to the place where I select SLB etc? Right?

@Morphix

Edit RDB, there will be a section labeled "slb". And use a version of 1.19 or better ('slb_v2 1.19 26.11.08' is what I have).

If you are adding a drive its partitions may of course all be non-bootable.

Very important update.

I posted to Hyperion forums and a fellow Amiga One owner reported that his machine got the SAME symptoms, solved after the ussing of a PCI controller. Please read:

http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2021&sid=1de222650c966c72058133140d4dff2c

So:

I am looking for a PCI hard disk controller compatible and working on AmigaOne XE.

I want to replace the ussage of the on board IDE controller with the PCI controller.

I am looking for a confirmed to work specific model:

Siig inc model sc-pe4b12-s4.

http://h30094.www3.hp.com/product.aspx?sku=3049935&mfg_part=SC-PE4B12-S4&pagemode=ca

If you got this model or another one that you have tested and found it working on an AmigaOne XE board, you can make me a reasonable offer.

Thanks for looking.

UPDATE:

Actually any card with the Silicon Image -sil- 3112/3114/3512 card would work. Here is a list with some supported models.

If you got anything spare, drop me a line.

@mlehto

Thanks for your reply sir, however I still have not got an answer by them, confirming that this SATA card would for sure work on an Eyetech AmigaOne board. AmigaOne is mentioned on the description however I want a confirmation that this description refers to the Eyetech boards as well.

@Morphix

Im tested all SIL cards in my A1G3-SE without any problems so far.

They call it AmigaOne etc. compilant, so its safe buy, is it sil card or not.

@mlehto

http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=51&products_id=1042

This is the link. Currently there is no any other info available for the card. I mena if it uses the SIL chip. It should work since they mention AmigaOne on the description but I want a full confirmation. I would need a SATA to IDE adapter to use my current IDE hard disk as well so the combo would cost me about 50 euros. Not quite cheap, so I want a full confirm that the kit would work.

In my case I would prferer to buy an IDE card -as I am ussing an IDE hard disk and I do not know if the SATA to IDE adapters work with A1-, of course the card should cone with the Sil chip from a user that already have used it on an AmigaOne XE, that is why I am asking here as well. :)

@Morphix

Sorry, I was too fast.

With Sil3114 you cant boot from any HD from there. It was so long ago... I forgot.

It is uboot limitation and will stay that way.

It may be remotely possible to drop A1 native ide to pio4 and make one tiny partition to IDE-disk, where is slb. And then put OS4 to sata-drive.

I made it that way in my Peg2, but cant confirm, that it is possible in A1.

As I wrote there:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=36967&forum=14&10

Best bet with A1 in sil0608 (ide) or SIL3112 (sata).

I check something still...

Yes. I have tought about that but at the end I have decided not to risk....

So I am seriously after a compatible IDE PCI card, for safety.

Hope to find one.

@mlehto

See this topic: http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2021

I guess somehting can be found and I guess that there are cards with the current chip plus IDE support like this one:

http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/sp_main.asp?HPURL=Y&hp_url=/product.aspx%3fsku%3d3049935%26mfg_part%3dSC-PE4B12-S4%26pagemode%3dca

Perhaps someone from here got a spare working one as well -high hopes-. :)

Hello folks.

I managed to find an ATA card with the SIL 0680 chip, both uboot and AmigaOS 4.1 recognises it and the system boots OK with my hard disk.

However there are lots of errors for bad blocks on the hard disk. I have get similar errors in the past but have used the repair tool and thought that the problem was gone. I do not know perhaps this would be a compatibility issue with the card, but I got to find a new hard disk to test and make sure. Right?

Anyway I am taking out the old hard disk and plug in a Maxtor 20 giga one, to make a fresh install, however it is not recognized under media toolbox. I have tried the same both under the PCI controller and on the onboard IDE. It is a simple IDE hard disk, no jumpers.

Any ideas?

Should I go for specific hard disks with specific features in order to get recognized?

And a last question: The AmigaOne scans the bus 0 for some minutes it does not find any drives -since nothing is connected- on the onboard IDE and then goes on the bus 1 where it finds the IDE card and then boots. How can I skip the bus 0 scanning? Any setting on uboot?
