@kyle

Its for the Sam440ep not the Sam460ex.

Will have a look at the Sam460ex to see if I can get anything done.

It was as simple as the fact that the Radeon HD firmware is not present in the Installer.

If it means you need to include every firmware to support every Radeon cards, please do so so that nobody will complain

@elwood

all the firmware is included.

I am going back over my configurations carefully because DRM is supposed to work on the Sam440ep .

Testing 3. 11.6 kernels on both Sam440ep-Flex and Sam460ex.
Performance on the Sam460ex with Debian Wheezy is good enough to make the downgrade to a Radeon HD 4000 series card worth it.

Also trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on the Sam440ep-Flex via a netinstall .

@Spectre660

Hi, I try the Debian 7.1 install, and I have problems with the net.
The system don't find the DHCP, I config the net manually, but don't conect with the Debian servers.
I think the system isn't in the net.

SOLVED

My mistake.
I select the wrong ethernet port, now is woking.

@kyle

Speed is ok.
Tried to install Libre Ofiice but it would not run after installation.

After Changing the Wheezy Background to Blue Marble I think that Wheezy works best for me.

@Spectre660

Fine, a little slow when boot, but all works more fast than amicygnyx.

I have only one problem.

The windows are in a ugly yellow, and I can't change it.
I even change the wallpaper, and turns in yellow. I think it's a graphics board problem.

My system has a Radeon 9200, I have a Radeon HD 4870 too, that works fine in OS4.
I test it in Linux the next weekend.

It's cool to have another OS to play. ( It's my first attempt with Linux)

My radeon 9250 is not working properly so I can't verify the yellow myself .
It works well enough to boot but the display is garbled

@ribdevil

Only 2 Ramdisk needed to do the 5 Installs
The Debian Installer on my install .ISO also does the Mint install.
Just need to add the Mint.org url in the Menu.lst line.
Problem with this is that it does not do the boot strap setup at the end.
So you have to do it manually or use another installation to set up the files needed to boot.

The Ubuntu installer installs Ubuntu (Too slow for Sam440ep), Xbuntu and Lubuntu.
I have not released this yet as It contains a 3.11.6 Kernel that I am still testing.
It is possible to boot the kernel and ramdisk from a bootable SFS/00 partition.
Just add a menu.lst file in the root directory of the partition pointing to the kernel and ramdisk to use.
This way no CD is required as I have chosen to use the Netinstaller versions of the radmdisks.
The one problem with multiple Linux installs is the the preseed file that sets up the bootstrap at the end of the installation gets confused by which partition the newly installed linux installation is on so you have to do a manual edit to the menu.lst file.

This is interesting. I was getting the same type of thing from Squeeze on my A1. I loaded up IceWeazel I think it was and the window borders were yellow in parts.

At first I thought it may be bacause my monitor resolution wasn't native. I fixed that manually but it was still there in yellow.

The installer CLI doubling up letters and making it hard to edit is another Debian annoyance.

Any Interest in Ubuntu 12.04 and Debian Wheezy installers for Sam460ex ? .

Installation will need a null modem cable and a terminal program running on a second computer.
apart from Installing the Parthenope boot loader and leaving some unpartitioned space on your hard drive
the installer will do the rest including setting up the Linux bootstrap with the usual prompts along the way.
3.12 Kernel with Graphics cards up to Radeon HD 4000 series supported .
