Basically all that cpu-architecture talk is a relic of the 90's ; )
With AmiCloud you will be able to convert files faster on an stock Amiga(68k) than on a sub500€ PC

Did Anyone play with M$ Azure? That and a bit more is what i aim with AmigaNX(software).
The device itself should cost far less than 100€ depending on connectivity or below 300€ as cell-phone.

@phoenixkonsole

are we not all a relict of the 90s?

A cloud for applications? Does not sound new, I think it was called software-on-demand before

Where are the applications running? On the server?

@OlafS25
It works that way:
You do a right click for example on a avi on your Amiga->choose cloud processing->action(convert)->target format and you are done.
Or a DOC->PDF
Or a mp4 to CDXL. You can work further and the file will be added to your AmiCloud sync-folder.

>500MHZ you will be able to run a Cloud-VM or games. With less power it will be a bit slow.. Ok for office. Of course the limiting factor is network speed.

Let's say your files is uploaded in 1h, converted in 3Minutes and downloaded in 10minutes.
Total conversation was 1h and 13Minutes.

that means the processing is done on the server and the avi is on the client?

@OlafS25
At first it is a feature for AmiCloud users and so the file would be placed inside the sync folder. (which uploads files automatically to the cloud). The cloud would convert the file and a download of the converted file (not replacing the original) would start to your local sync-folder. So you end up with X.avi and X.mp4 for example.

We have since 2 year a unreleased converter called vicon in the pipeline which would make use of cloud-processing as well.

The whole additions to AmigaOS will be packed into a software add-on called AmigaNX. My own philosophy of a future proof AmigaOS. Of course it will work on other systems as well.

that means the processing is done on the server and the avi is on the client?

And all the services for converting files are installed on the server? If I use Magellan I could make a cloud version? At the moment I use locale files for it.

No joke.

Really? Considering it takes me 1 hour + to upload a video to youtube you must have an awfully fast network connection to make that possible or your 'remote server' is running on the LAN for testing.

Anyway if you are using a remote server you a1200 is not converting anything.

@phoenixkonsole

or do you simply use AmiCloud like App Store as a own application with limited functionaliy? How is it integrated in a Amiga Environment? I think here of Aros Vision.

Size matters ; ) And yes, it is not the A1200 who does the job.
See M$ Azure. Today many companies use clients and my favorite one is a Amiga : )

You can integrate it into Magellan's menus. We can also create small cli tools if needed. The Api will be made available for 3rd parties but users need a AmiCloud account to make use of them.

One interesting way to make use of it is Blender. People could work on a Amiga and let do the Rendering in the cloud.

1-2 month for a first version, you will be the first to test it ; )
The amicloud account is bounded to the app-store so people need only one account (ID)for both. The store is right now in upgrade process.. so clients show nothing.
Don't worry, everything is ok. Next time we add a "maintenance" info to the client.

There are a number of dedicated render farms out there for this allready, I have green button account, though I last used so long ago I don't know if it still exists

@phoenixkonsole

Is there something like a script language or Amiga-E or whatever to write services for it or do you use preinstalled services over a API? I mean can you extend the server yourself or are you dependent on what services are offered by you? It could be interesting for developers.

I know but,
1. They are not mine
2. They are not integrated into my OS
3. We are less expensive beauce we do it for fun with 0 overhead
4. My server programmer moaned that I bought to overdressed servers for the app-store : ) .. sure because it is a playground for more things.

App-store, Cloud, Cloud-processing are 3 of 5 things I need for my Phone/Computer/console hybrid : )
The best thing:
We can not fail, because we don't make a live from it ; )
Just for fun.

This is indeed interesting but not yet. They can directly talk with us about ideas for now and we can help out to achieve that.

Available API's will be opened for developers. Adding new features via scripting-language would be possible if we sell CPU-hours/minutes. Personally I would like to know what my servers do or at least define "boarders" .

But I will discuss this idea.

Maybe you need some good glasses...

Happy to see you're kind and gentle as usual, anyhow i believe you need better glasses than mine 'cause it's written in the very posts you're replying to (f.e #122)

This thread is not about phoenixkonsole, phoenixkonsole's app-store, phoenixkonsole's attempt to take on Steam by borrowing money from the Amiga community, phoenixkonsole's Aeros-hardware-of-the-week or phoenixkonsole's latest idea to make money out of thin air.

I thought I'd mention this, as some people (I'm not going to mention names, guys - not my style) seem to misunderstand the purpose of this thread - and a few dozen others.

1) I was talking about 68K emulation.
2) phoenixkonsole has written: "you can Run os 4 stuff site by Site on aros and it is customchip compatible". "customchip" = Amiga = 68K.
3) phoenixkonsole has written: "So you can Run all 68k Apps". Pay attention to the "so" word, which in this context means a conclusion about the discussion.

So, I had a STRONG feeling that "os 4" was a typo / lapsus, and that he wanted to mean 68K instead. In fact, in my reply I talked, again, only about 68K.

Aside this, is that important having OS4's applications running on another Amiga-like o.s? From what I've seen, many are conversions from other alien o.ses, which I think it's better to run on the original platforms. And some are also ported to the other Amiga-like o.ses.

IF there's such called killer apps for OS4, it can make sense to think about having them running on something else than OS4.

Anyway, it's much better to focus on 68K applications instead. They are still currently used, and many post-amigans care about them. Since in this niche market there are very few resources, it's the best thing to do, IMO.

Geh kacken

Borrowing is not just taking and implies giving back. So where is the problem. If you have a personal problem with me we can discuss it from face to face.
