| I would rather pay kickstarter to hire one or more full time developer to accelerate OS, office package, 3d drivers etc than to pay millions for a name. |

I'm *pretty* sure you'd all be too busy pissing on each others parades to be concerning yourself with external entities.
A "community" owned Amiga Inc.... I think that would lead to the shortest honeymoon period known since the dawn of man! |

Sounds like Amiga is like Wordworth then. Worth nothing to the modern world but when an Amiga person is interested suddenly the price rises higher than a retro eBay item. |

If you would sell something real amiga-related under the name it would be woth at least 3.00$
@thread
as someone already mentioned the legal situation around the brand is unclear. You would need also the agreement of Hyperion. There is also uncertainty around the past who really owns it today. Even if it is a nice idea we better forget it. Last edited by OlafS25 on 18-Jul-2014 at 11:51 AM.

To be clear, from Garry Hare and any press, we're talking about the operating system here and not "Amiga". I don't believe you're indicating all the IP, but with new readers, I thought it best to clarify.

The first step for anyone seriously considering attempting to buy this would be to engage an attorney. That attorney, in turn, would engage a minimum of one trademark attorney as a specialist...perhaps more. I hope you have a budget for these little extras. heh.

Unfortunately, in order to make a new hardware product using any OS, one would need to own (or license) the Amiga trademark for "computer hardware." I think we all agree a new hardware product would be the most exciting venture.
It's debatable if Amiga, Inc. even owns this trademark anymore as the last filing seems to be fraudulent, and they've gone through considerable litigation and accumulated losses - plus apparently there is no longer an operating entity with any cash. However, it appears Amiga, Inc. does own amiga.com, which is at least 1/2 the equation. Last edited by gta2014 on 18-Jul-2014 at 05:50 PM.

Hyperion has exclusive licence for AmigaOne (or Amiga One), AmigaOS (or Amiga OS) names and owns (or has licensed) AmigaOS source code.
You don´t need any license for AROS or MorphOS based computers. Note: Amiga name may be not licensed to computers bundled with these OSs (if I understand terms of 2009 Settlement Agreement correctly).

Hopefully we'll see the AmigaOne X5000 sometime in the next year. I'd imagine they'll have that large Boing Ball logo on it like the X1000.
