@Vanhapolle

even though as a user you will not always tell at the first glance all complex guis are done in mui. mui is also platform independent to a high degree, aros, os4. amiga, mos they all have it. i cant even name a program using reaction or classact that was worth to mention.

@Vanhapolle

I prefer to code Reaction / BOOPIS GUIs, I'm not that worried about which GUI an app I use as a user uses, but given the choice I would again choose Reaction / BOOPSI

@broadblues

Somehow me and one my friends (i dont know if he is there) prefer also Reaction. And one problem with MUi is becouse documentation seems be some level at least with amigaguide or similar format i must print it with MOS. which i dont know if i can do it.
ps. Reaction based worth mention apps is AWeb. ANd i dont know how much i care how portable code is. Of course gives more users.

Clearly untrue

Very true, a good choice for cross platform apps. I have seen a few older apps that had seperate GUI modules giving a choice but in this modern day that's alot of effort

Sigh....

I dont have ClassAct installed on any of my Amigas and one reason why I dislike ClassAct/Reaction is that it looks, well, very ugly.

Not many (outside OS4) know about SketchBlock and honestly, I have been thinking of giving it MUI GUI

@itix

Class Act I'd partially agree on the ugliness, Reaction is quite improved in that respectv over time, ofcourse taste will vary.

Wasn't just think about SB, but yes it is Amiga OS4 specific so I wouldn't expect it to be known more widely.

Feel free to write any GUI you like for it if you need any additional ARexx functionailty to achive that let me know

@Vanhapolle

reaction. MUI is, at least for me, unpleasant to use, with object having its own prefs, and not always sure which widget is being controlled by which custom class. and i much prefer the look of reaction on AOS4. of course if you want to deploy your software on MOS and AROS as well as AOS3 and AOS4, then maybe MUI is better. dunno -- i just much prefer reaction.

@tlosm

Not the original author (that would be Yvon Rozijn according to wikipedia) but a major contributor to the open sourced AWeb and maintainer of the AmigaOS 4.x port of it.

Might be true if this would still be 2004 or your useing a fairly low level 68k, but in this day and age it's just as relevant as AMosaic

The MUI documentation in the MorphOS-SDK comes in 2 ways (with the same contents), autodocs, which can be printed as normal text (*) and AmigaGuide wich can easily be converted to HTML (google will give you plenty pointers).

The main advantages about MUI apart from being cross-(Amiga-)platform are:
- Far more features/classes than ReAction
- More programms/programmers useing it over a long period of time resulting in much better chance of finding help online.

*you might need to convert Amiga-newlines to DOS-newlines but I guess most editors text-viewer on Win/OSX/*nix will handle them just fine

@eliyahu

So basicly you are complaining bout MUI giving you more option ? I hardly ever touch MUI-prefs (surely not for the looks) and if I do I'll do it globally (like setting a font that makes sense at a certain resolution/screen-size).
MUI on OS4 (and AmigaOS3.x) might look less than perfect, but so does ReAction/ClassAct on everything but OS4 (well to be honest I'm not a big fan of how it look there too....).

I like Reaction look, but my taste is for simpler designs (eg. really nice MorphOS themes are too bloated for me). However, for multiplatform applications (OS3/OS4/AROS/MorphOS), MUI is clear choice.

There are some nice Reaction based applications - eg. Netsurf, SketchBlock or CodeBench.

@Vanhapolle

I've done programming with both ReAction and Zune (poor man's MUI) and I have to say I prefer ReAction. They are very similar in many ways (both being based on BOOPSI class system it's not all that surprising).

One of the main things I don't like about MUI/Zune is that it forces you to subclass just in order to be able to do some really simple things like adding images into a listview (this is much more easily done in ReAction using it's listbrowser gadget).

BTW you don't have to choose between either MUI or ReAction you can also support both (like AHI does with it's prefs program for instance). That way everyone wins.

It is not true (maybe it is Zune limitation, but giving opinions about MUI having only tried Zune is ridiculous). Images may be inserted in listviews just with escape codes in inserted texts.
