AROS has the most chances to survive? Is that a joke? Because is running on x86 platforms? That doesn't give me any good reason for using AROS. AROS has more devs than normal users.

The problem is that new AmigaOS-like systems are scattered around in 3 different camps, that's the big problem. Imagine all devs under one "Amiga" umbrella.

I don't have any windoze systems at home. My mainly computers are my X1000 and my trusty A1200, which they are sufficient for what I do in my life. Do you use only AROS for all your work?

As open-source, it is not affected by company bankruptcy. Eg. without Hyperion, all legal basis of AmigaOne/AmigaOS4 platform is lost.

@Phantom

you seem not to do much with it except using OWB for browsing

how do you connect new printer to your X1000 without drivers?

how do you exchange documents with (real world)? I have to do that

That's why AROS will be so small as it is now. If you think that people will switch to AROS, if AmigaOS 4 or MorphOS vanish some day, you're leaving in a dream. Better to go back to 68k. At least I know that I'll feel like home.

That is exactly what OlafS25 wants to hear - as he is strong supporter of AROS 68k.

Yes I do all my stuff with AEROS + Windows running in Virtualbox.

AEROS for Pi has 1000+ registered users. And most of them not active on Forums.. so extending the audience.

The catering in 3 camps is irrelevant if 1 reaches outsiders.

My first target is to beat Ubuntu in terms of functionally (full package Cloud, Paketmanagement, Store and other things).

So in 2016 I doubt any free linux will be more polished than AROS. At least I am for this.

But again.. Still niche. More is not possible. Maybe 2000users until end of 2016.. Pi2 brings chances.

AbiWord has some support for MS Word formats. Eg. I can write formated texts with footnotes and copy them to any PC for further work (printing etc.).

AROS 68k? I'm speaking about the original AmigaOS, not that you mention of course.

some support perhaps... but even when using different versions of the same office package of a certain well known company you can run in trouble . You can only afford the luxury to use AmigaOS (or any other of our options) when you use it isolated privately at home because of lack of software and modern drivers.

That's a list of features for a period which roughly equals the *ENTIRE TIME* of late Commodore Amiga existed? Not too much. (Not to mention most of the things in the list are either came late after huge delays or less advanced/performing than the competition out there, there are very few original features in there.)

Hyperion did a really bad (and slow) job maintaining the OS it was trusted with. I'm saying this both as an Amiga fan, and as a software engineer.

@Phantom

BTW my description of what is not possible includes AmigaOS

You have new modern printer support? really? Where? Link please

Modern Office? where? and do not mention LibreOffice because it is not real and perhaps never will

We have right now all the same problems

You compare Hyperion with Commodore? That is great praise. Even in this comparison OS4 stands well - my point of view of course.

@Hyperionmp

Ok, lets apply the "Hyperionmp-filter" (tm) to that post (all parody guys, we know that Hyperionmp's words and promises are always true and fair):

Yup, it's true, we're bust.
