Items 2-4 are set in stone for this release. Items 1 and 5 are not.
Item 2 is merely a bugfix at this point.
What I can tell you is in the last 4 days there have been about 130 commits done to Final Writer. We will not be letting feature creep become and issue though.

I can remember my old girl friend used FW to write some school assignments, but cygnus editor rules! _________________ Using: One Commodore C64 - One Commodore Amiga 500 - One Commodore Amiga 1200 with BVision and Blizzard 68060 with PPC coprocessor running Amiga DOS - One Hellbillylitre Amigatwox86x64x6000x running Windows7 |

| Hi, I wonder if you will support Classic 68k Amiga also in the new version? Nice with nextgen support, but A-EON and Perfect Paint supports both. So, maybe there is a chance for a 68k version of newest FinalWriter?

I've stated in the past I was planning for Classic, AROS, MorphOS and Aos4.

I will gladly pay for a MorphOS version. _________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." (J.L. Gassée, former CEO of Apple France and chief of devs of Mac II-fx, interviewed by Amazing Computing, Nov 1996). |

She didn't throw it. RTF was too limited and inefficient. Quote:

Why do you need RTF? Please, stick with the plain text. ! It doesn't need constant development, and need no fixes.

ROFL. The RTF WAS developed by Microsoft, do you know it? So, please, don't be ruled by that monolithic behemoth, and stick with the plain text.

So, since the so called Office '97 (extended 'til 2007, if I remember correctly) format is "dead", do you plan to support it? Microsoft published (from very long time) the full specs.

Actually latest Rich Text Format (RTF) specification version is 1.9.1 used in M$ Office 2007. |
That sounds about right. M$ give us the last iteration of RTF (a useful feature) in Office 2007 as well as the first iteration of the bloated icon eyesore that is the 'Ribbon' (a pointless feature)!
I'll be forced to use the 'Ribbon' at work from tomorrow but since M$ Office's old menu structure was so ubiquitous and widely understood I really don't see the point of it to be honest. I'll probably keep it hidden most of time to hide those horrible icons and just use the small quick reference icons for most of the common tools I use. It will be a pain to have to unhide the 'Ribbon' just to select a font, font size and choose alignment options though. I guess I'll be using more keyboard shortcuts to try and avoid using the 'Ribbon' unless I have to. |
Maybe you need to spend a bit more time looking at how the "Ribbon interface" works. I usually don't spend my time clicking on the Ribbon. Most of the time I just play with context-menu which automatically appears close to the mouse, or I make it appear with the usual right-click of the mouse. Of course, keyboard short-cuts are my preferred tool.

Hehe oki :) Its just so loong thread.. I havent taken time to read everything. With Indivision AGA mk2 I am even getting 1280x720 on my LCD-TV with my Amiga 1200. Would be really nice to run FinalWriter there. I even managed to run Deluxe Paint in 1280x720.. but due to little chip mem I sometimes only get 2 colors to play with :) while other times I get 32 colors.
Happy to see FinalWriter for Amiga. I would pay at least $50 for sure!
Love your work! _________________ Regards, Michal, Amiga user since 1988 amitopia@gmail.com |

Word processor's should all have efficient keyboard short-cuts, as every time you have to remove your fingers from the keyboard to move a mouse, is lost productivity. Spreadsheets and database programs also share that requirement.
It has been so long since I have used Final Writer, I can't remember how well it implements keyboard short-cuts, or how much dependence on mouse and menu selections is included. _________________ Amiga!
