@Spectre660

Thanks, maybe I should update that program.

The same old story, same problem ... users hardly ever donate to developers and this is not acceptable (if you care about the future of the system).

Perhaps that's because Amiga is the past and not the future. There's no future in chip sets from the 80s and 90s, and there's no future in an OS that's stuck in the past like AOS.

@pavlor

Thank you very much for the numbers !

Warp3D sure isn't the fastest on OS4 compared to Morphy, I've heard of that there
were plans once for a Direct3D 9.0ish update for OS4 W3D called "nova" which didn't came to be..

Hopefully Gallium3D will be faster
(And maybe as you can see I have no idea what it is API ? Driver/Driver Template ?)

@Plexus
@-Sam-
@bennymee

Thanks guys

@Rab
@Dragster

Can't you use an AGP card alongside the Radeon HD for booting ?

Cut it out
I don't care how this came to be or if it is supposedly an interesting discussion

This thread's about sharing benchmarks, not bickering for the 100th time about how OS4 is "pointless" or that it has "no future"

Yeah, you're right. It's strange how arguing can be enjoyable. I need a life.

Sorry, but these are bad performances, however for X1000 users there is a frame rate to well play in any resolution

@Seiya

yes confirm,
on linux ppc i have the same problems in performances much more worst compared osx
quake 640x480 150fps linux vs 870 fps on osx.

but im sure the performances will be better in future hans is working on warp3d and hans is a great :)
for now we have to think that before was nothing now something is mooving ;)

I did a quick port of the Cow3D benchmark to MorphOS.

http://www.geit.de/tmp/Cow3D5.lha

Changed source and MorphOS binary are included.

Please note that when using MorphOS you need Wazp3D drivers to allow software rendering:
http://thellier.free.fr/Wazp3D.zip

Also please note that the benchmark is not aware of multi graphic boards. Therefor it fails for running on systems with multiple graphic cards and shows crap, as it queries information from graphics card and screen one and applies them for using on screen, too, which is a big fail.

Also the MorphOS debug output shows another real problem with the code:

The author of "Cow3D" is braindead and used W3D_SetTexEnv with an envcolor but no W3D_BLEND.

Also a benchmark spotting

/* v5.0 Sept 2012: Use W3D_DrawElement() on OS4 ==> faster */

in code should not be used for any compares between systems. All the same or nothing. This is bullshit.

Better use stuff like Quake3 for comparing.

Efika 400Mhz with a Radeon 9800Pro, Resolution 1920x1080 with 30fps reported by bigfoot.

That would be Alain Thellier, the author Wazp3D...(clearly stated in the readme)

Instead of bashing him you could have wrote to him and explain what he's done wrong...but well, that seems to be the Amiga situation nowadays...

@Raziel

No. It is the MorphOS driver dumping the debug line as the benchmark application is doing something wrong. Warp3D is used the wrong way. I do not need Wazp3D.

If you look through the code, then you'll see that the blend-mode can be changed by the user to test different modes. Having an envcolor without W3D_BLEND is pointless, but it's simply ignored. So, there's no harm in leaving the pointer set when you're cycling through different env modes.

No need to get so worked up about this. Alain's goal with cow3d wasn't to "compare systems," but to test performance with various settings so that he can figure out what's best to use. Hence, it tests AmigaOS 4 only features too.

We can do a quick comparison using only the old Warp3D calls; all AmigaOS 4 users have to do is push 't', and it will draw everything using W3D_DrawTriangle().

My test results in single-triangle mode: ~110 fps
This is with an A1-X1000 + Radeon HD 7770 (version 1.9 of the W3D_SI driver).

I believe that some people have already posted Quake 3 results, although I have no idea which version they used.

Efika 400Mhz with a Radeon 9800Pro, Resolution 1920x1080 with 30fps reported by bigfoot.

So let's compare:

SAM460 1.1GHz, Quake3 @ 1280x1024:
spectre660, Sam460ex + HD7750: ~30fps
m3x, Sam460cr + HD7750: 26 fps
Sinan, Sam460 + R7 265: 26 FPS
imagodespira, Sam460 + R7 250E: ~20FPS

So an old crippled Efika with 128MB and a 400MHz G2 CPU that is only clocked at ~36% of the SAM460 clock, using an old Radeon 9800 AGP card, running the Quake 3 at 1920x1080 (2 073 600 pixels) ACTUALLY BEATS the SAM460 with almost 3x the CPU power equipped with those new GFX cards, while only running quake in 1280x1024 (1 310 720 pixels)!?

So with three times the CPU, fancy HD7750 or R7 cards and a lower resolution meaning only 63% of the Efika/9800/MorphOS pixel burden, these Sam460/OS4 systems STILL LOSES!?

THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!

We only have one resolution reported for the MorphOS system, but if we recalculate the Efika/9800/MorphOS framerate with the much lower resolution of the OS4 tests, it would theoretically perform ON PAR WITH THESE:

X1000 1.8GHz, Quake3 @ 1280x1024:
mufa, X1000 + R9 270: 53 FPS
zzd10hj, X1000 + R7 250X: ~51fps
Breed, X1000 + HD7750: 41FPS

WOW!!!

Is someone really charging money for this? It can't possibly be ready for end user release, or?

Euh... Buy it on AMIStore. It's the current release

@Hans & Spectre660

Cow3D in single-triangle mode:

up to 114 fps (X1000 R7 250X)
