if / when there are enough pre-orders, otherwise the project will be canceled

I thought the Kickstarter money sealed the development ? Now they are asking more money with preorders !?

As I read, the Kickstarter money was for the support of a team to develop the Amiga version, not for the development itself. For this version, Cinemaware will not earn anything, the money will go to the development team.

From the project update:

"Why its not part of the Kickstarter?

As we announced we don´t develop it by ourself, we support a team who develop it. And as you are aware, the sales for an Amiga Game are not really high so the complete sale revenue goes direct to the developer. This is a game where cinemaware will earn nothing and the developer team takes the whole risk because they develope the game since three months for free. This project is a game on a system we all love and where it all started. So please understand that we can´t add this version to the Kickstarter Campaign."

@Daytona675x

I will preorder it, and I really hope you'll get enough preorders to finish the development.

@Tomppeli
you have to add a pilot, then configure it completely (fully distribute the skills until it says okay), then apply "training" on the new pilot (so it gets its wings), then "join squadron".

The Kickstarter campaign was not about an Amiga version. One stretch goal was "we provide source and assets if somebody wants to port it".
The money they now ask for is for the development of this Amiga version (which is a full rewrite btw.) and the production costs.

@Daytona675x

WOW great Daniel! It really flies on my X1000 with Warp3D.

I added my pilot and selected training and then I joined a squadron and the game started. But after 1-2 minutes of flying around the demo ends I guess?

Yes, it goes in circles. It will go round and round, bombing, strafing, dofight, and again...

@Daytona675x

The problem is that it didn't nothing from the above (no bombing, no dogfighting etc).

But it's a tremendous effort. Let's hope that Cinemaware will bring Defender of the Crown remastered as well.

EDIT: My bad, I should choose again to play and it goes further in bombing and dogfighting.

Thanks, for explaining.

@Daytona675x
How many preorders are you looking for and can it be monitored somewhere how many preorders are still needed to reach the goal ?

(Edit)
I tested the game the second time and this time it added my pilot to the list after setting the skill levels and clicking ok. So I was able to continue from that. At the first attempt the list remained empty so there was nothing to click to get the wings, no matter how many times I tried.

The game itself works smooth without any glitches. (Run it at 1920x1080 full screen.)

@Daytona675x

Daniel, digital pre-orders will be better and increase the chances of porting this to AmigaOS 4 and others. Do you think that you/we have to contact Cinemaware about this matter, or they are looking forward for selling box copies only?

Yes, in the dogfights the controls should follow the standard...
Was it non standard in the old Amiga version to? (I don't remember)

Order placed!

@Daytona675x

Looks promising. I have tried this with Sam440 (Radeon M9), 16 bit screen mode and generally it looks pretty smooth. A couple of issues:

1) Warp3D version has some clipping issues in 3D flying mode. Sometimes polygons disappear from the the backside of the plane.

2) Compositing version may crash during intro or game. Traces: http://capehill.kapsi.fi/wings_compositing.txt

@Mr_Capehill
Thanks Regarding those issues: all known, please check out the "known issues" section at the bottom of my post here

@jPV
@Nicsoft
Actually an option for inverting the y-axis is already prepared - I only forgot to attach it. I'll update the demo accordingly - but not today anymore. You should receive the update automatically.
When / if all this continues I'll update the demo from time to time to reflect the progress.

@Tomppeli
@Phantom
Regarding digital download option and current state of preorders etc.:
I forwarded all those questions to Cinemaware and will report back as soon as I get answers.
Remember: after all I'm just the programmer

And, of course: thanks to all who preordered already

@Daytona675x

Nice work!
I played the old Wings a LOT!!!!!
Nowadays unfortunately the time to play was really low...so I like to buy the game but something like a digital delivery and not more than 24.99 or so...any option to add that from Cinemaware?

@Daytona675x

Great, please inform us about their response regarding digital download and the state of pre-orders. I'll wait for your news before placing my order, otherwise if there'll be not a digital offer I'll pre-order the physical copy.

IIRC it was normal flight controlling in the original Amiga version ("inverted" so that up goes down and down goes up like a real aeroplane). Hmm.. actually I've played it this year and I should remember if it'd been weird, so pretty sure it's like in any other flight simulator :)

Anyway, the inverted option should be on by default when it's been fixed IMHO.

Very nice as expected coming from Mr Daytona (even if "only" conversion).

i'll try this version with OS4.1 on WinUAE only like a personal curiosity
it works only resolution screen and audio playback.
the rest is only a black screen.

@Seiya

The emulated video hardware in WinUAE supports neither compositing or Warp3D.
