@Daytona675x

Nice, but the plane shadow is not changing when strafing. Same when it is displayed on others objetcs like houses or trees but I suppose that it is a limitation in the original code.
A thing not logical too is when you shoot a truck while there's another one behind...that truck drive over the burning trucks like if there wasn't there :)

Any plan to support Nova?

@kamelit0

If he starts targeting Nova, it will rule out AmigaOneXE's

No, as he could target both API.

@TheAMIgaOne

As long as the XE didn't have the DMA fix applied you can use newer Radeon HD cards without issues. We did this with Radeon PCI versions with X1550, HD2400 etc. There cards are PCIe cards with a with a bridge chip built in rather than on a separate card.

In theory you should be able to use compatible Southern Islands cards but as far as I know nobody has tried. The main problem is that very few low profile cards that are compatible exist and full height cards you get problems fitting and securing them in place when plugged into the bridge card. The are probably ways around this using ribbon cable extenders but I thinks so far no one is prepared to make the outlay for some hardware that may not work.
I had hoped someone would have taken the plunge by now, possibly paving the way for better cards on the XE.

@Lazi

Lol I wish, just went and bought a £700+ PC workstation, my amiga expenditure will have to be smaller.

@Rob
Just found a PCI -> PCIE adaptor for around £55 inc postage, so could plan an upgrade soonish providing I find the correct combination.

Bear in mind that you'd be treading new ground and there's a chance that it won't so it's best to try and minimize financial risk as much as possible.

If you have access to to any old PCIE video cards lying around try those out just to to test that the A1's firmware picks the video card up over the bridge. In theory even an Nvidia card should be able to display Uboot.
It may be a good idea to get a flexi-riser so you can rest the card out something outside the case when testing and it could be useful later on.

Hopefully everything is successful on the hardware side and we can start looking at the software side and a compatible card.
My recommendation would be to have a chat with Amigikit about arranging to test one the cards they stock and the driver so don't have to shell out before finding out if they work. It's in their interest to know if the drivers and cards work with the XE too, so hopefully something can be sorted out.

About the flexi-riser.

A while back Spectre660 relocated a dual slot HD6670 in his Sam460 system so he could still use the PCI slot.

See here.

You could do the same with the XE so you wouldn't be limited to low profile cards. The only drawback is that you'd need an extended ATX case with provision for at least 8 card slots to be able to mount the card below the Xe motherboard. Not difficult to source but it is an extra expenditure if you don't already have such a case.

I like this particular riser since the PCIe is mounted at a right angle and the board has plenty of through holes for mounting on standoffs so that it can be properly secured, and if you're lucky, without tapping new standoff holes in the case. You can plug it into the bottom PCI socket (via the bridge card) on the XE and fold the cable back against itself under the the riser board before securing

If I still had my XE I'd be testing this out myself and I had hoped someone would have already tried by now.

Does anyone know if the sale of the Cinemaware brand and IP rights affect this release in any way?

@Bezzen

I get email updates from time to time from Cinemaware Retro and the email from March says that Cinemaware retro are not part of the deal and their releases won't be affected.

The last email on the 3rd of this month also says they are now just waiting on the the manual and 1 of the 3 disks to arrive before they start shipping the collectors edition of DOTC starts shipping. It also said that when DOTC starts shipping they will begin taking pre-orders for for the collectors edition of Rocket Ranger.
