What was different about this dump than what has happened in years past?

@pavlor

shall inform parties not equal to sue and threat everyone on planet

and they would only generate income from stupid ones... not enough to become rich. And they would go to f.e. german courts and then have to proof their rights. Would not be that simple when you look at the chaos after Commodores bankruptcy

@thread

The original source given for this story about the leak is stated to be Generation Amiga.
Can someone supply the text in english since every other website (as I stated earlier) is just quoting their information, which we know from Olaf is wrong.

Thanks.

You could look in the sources for undocumented "features" and improve 3.1. compatibility.

Exactly, since the o.s. itself is a mess.

That can be good but ... im really thinking the Coerence system will be the real way for have the perfect compatibility ... thanks to uae and the jit in all the new gen systems (Aos, Mos, Aros) ... Users will not understand that the programs are running in a sandbox .
If some one have the opportunity can try the Parallels desktop on their PC or Macs in coerence mode.

here couple of examples

Check version numbers of "new" components in current Cloanto´s releases with 3.9BB2... then we can continue our discussion.

@cdimauro

We know Cloanto licensed some parts from various parties in the past, but we don´t know what percentage of entire OS sources is (legally) useable for them.

@pavlor: the most important part is another one. It's this:

"the code was integrated into the respective Kickstart/Workbench material, with further changes being made as needed."

@tlosm

You forget Aros 68k and the Aros Rom Replacements there. For me compatibility is most important to replace the original files and roms because only then people will use it instead 3.X. Next to compatibility speed on original hardware is very important so when you could look in the sources you could propably better optimize it there. So it would still have some value. But that is theoretic because the sources are legally polluted and poisened and because of the mentioned reasons none of the involved parties has any interest to change something about it.

Also interests are different:
Hyperion anyway has access to sources and no interest that others have that too
MorphOS is anyway planning to move away from heritage in the process of ISA change so certainly not much interest
Most interested are certainly Aros camp and many people in the 68k community

So I think it will not happen. But saying it is of no interest is not true either in my view.

@cdimauro

it is a mess but people want to use the software. If it not works then they say "Aros is bad" and move away. That is of course not true for X86 or ARM but there is not much productivity software available there, most are game ports. You mentioned there that you prefer a "clean OS" even if that means no software. Sorry to shock you: "Users use Software and are not content with moving windows". So if Aros wants to become more than "Research" it needs a vision how to get more software. Cutting the existing base does not sound like a good plan. And regarding Aros 68k, I disagree there. Fortunately people can test it themselves easily.

About Aros, i think if they will make e perfect Arm integration with smp and gallium , paolo can ask the Pi group as one of the OS for the PI.
Why the PI because it have a big users community and most important it is in the schools it will means new fresh users generation

smp and gallium because onthe PI 2there are systems that already use it eg mate

@OlafS25: I said a different thing, Olaf. I'm against badly written code, which used undocumented information/API to do their dirty work. I'm for implementing the public APIs of an o.s., without caring of such undocumented information.

Unfortunately the Amiga o.s. itself used a lot of such undocumented stuff, as Toni Wilen reported. So, if you want to get more software working, even o.s. components!!!, you need to implement such not public information. And here the Amiga o.s. 3.1 sources can help.

That's all.

@cdimauro

if the old software not works people will not use Aros. Less relevant for X86 or ARM of course but very relevant for Aros 68k and the Aros Rom Replacements

@OlafS25

AROS on non-68K CPUs are practically useless for most AmigaOS end users i.e. might as well start over and move to Windows/Linux/MacOSX and that's what I did.

My AmigaOS 4.1 FE and AmigaForever 2016 purchase are both retro and running my old legacy Amiga software. I could have setup my own WinUAE+QEMU PPC** with AmigaOS4.1 FE purchase but I like AmigaForever 2016's tight package.

**I have already setup my own WinUAE+QEMU PPC with AmigaOS 3.9 PPC add-on support before my AmigaForever 2016 purchase.

Yes Raspberry 2 (native) would be a perfect fit with static documented hardware and less serious competition, expecially mostly used as toy so potential shortcomings of Aros are less relevant (expecially regarding security like missing MP). Unfortunately the activity there stopped some time ago so the only option is using "Linux hosted" there. And of course it would be unbeatable cheap as entry system.

@Hammer

Have you used Icaros Desktop already? It also has 68k emulation. But I agree, if your main interest is using 68k software I personal too prefer to use FS-UAE or WinUAE. A different thing might be Vampire 2 / Apollo. They are evaluating to use the Aros Rom Replacements there and are in contact to Toni already to solve existing problems. Have you tested Aros Vision already?
