@Niolator

Yes it's the starting price for complete systems.

Yes, the €2,200 EUR (back then €2,300 due to exchange rate fluctuation) is for a system with the lowest possible specs options.

The price was pre-announced a very long time ago. I can think of a number of reason for it to have changed (in both directions) whenever it actually goes for sale.

Quote:
If I am not mistaken X5000 is going to be available as just the motherboard.

"AmigaOne X5000" is a system.

The Nemo motherboard eventually went for sale stand-alone, it has been said that the Cyrus will be sold stand-alone as well.

Quote:
Then it will be a lot cheaper.

It should be cheaper since it's a lot less stuff delivered, but a price can be anything and does not necessarily reflect cost alone, policy can be a big part of it. So if you buy a motherboard alone from AeonKit and plan to buy the other stuff from your local/favourite computer store, it could very well be that the bottom line price won't be "a lot cheaper", but even more expensive. AeonKit sets the price of the motherboard to whatever they want, and their best profit margin (thus their primary interest) comes from complete systems, you should keep this in mind.

Why not put the price in Australian dollars for greater impact?

Did I make a calculation error? Isn't that the price? Isn't it a fair guess that some 80% of the customers will pay the EUR price? Another 15% in USD? Communicating the prices in "pounds" only is just weird, almost everyone will have to "translate" it one way or another. And then on top of that try to figure out whether the price includes the 20% VAT every Europeans has to pay, or if that comes in addition on top of it all.

So, out of curiosity, what are used X1000s (not) going for these days? 500-600 EUR? That isn't so bad, I might be interested at that price.

There's not been many sold on the second hand market and at least 2 people who were selling decided to keep them in the end so there's not really a typical price out there. It turns out that the guy selling this one wants £1800 but other people who have sold or were selling for a higher price. The base price for the X5000 should drive down the price but not by a huge amount.

AmigaOne SE/XE, Micro A1, Pegasos 2, Sam 440 and Sam460 system can all be found in or around the €500-600 price bracket if you keep your eye out.

@TRIPOS

I was just joking but while it's not on sale and exchange rates fluctuate the UKP price is the only one that's relevant since it is a British product. It could get even cheaper for non UK customers if Britain votes to leave the EU since the pound will at least initially lose value regardless how it affects the long term prospects of the county.

The price I quoted is with VAT at 20%, without VAT it's £1415.

Hmm... With UK possibly leaving EU maybe one should start counting on the non VAT price.

@Niolator

In that case you would have to start calculating with a customs fee (which will be between 0-12%, hard to predict) and then the much higher Swedish VAT of 25% on top of it all (purchase price plus shipment and customs fee combined) instead...

Yes, I am aware of that. I can't fathom why they would leave. I am for a united world, a united Europe is a small step on the way. This kind of separatist thinking only makes that dream more difficult to come true.

The coming of a one world order will ultimately stem from the coming of the anti-Christ and should not be welcomed with such naivety. Ref: Revelation 13:7-10 & Revelation 13:1-18.

The EU would be a lot easier to support if the European Parliament was the legislative creating chamber rather than the "quango elected by the heads of state" European Council! This is indirect democracy at its worst. Faceless politicians get elected by proportional representation and then vote on laws created by a quango! They are also supported by a ridiculous amount of civil servants (23,600 work for the European Commission as of April 2013). In the European Parliament, around 6,000 people work in the general secretariat and in the political groups. In the Council of the European Union, around 3,500 people work in the general secretariat. If it were to be represented by a political group in fiction you couldn't go far wrong with the Vogon dominated galactic civil service in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Worst of all the only argument our government can come up with to stay in the EU is that we might have one year of economic uncertainty! Considering the strain the Greece economy is exerting on Germany and the rest of the Eurozone, Europe's economy could crash irrespective of whether we leave or not. But at least we'll be in control of our own laws and won't have to be part of this undemocratic gravy train for faceless and pretty much unaccountable career politicians and civil servants.

X1000 didn't sell on eBay

Admittedly, the reserve wasn't met but maybe a starting price of £600 might have helped?

Collection only severely limits the potential market and we don't know how close the reserve is to the £1699 price tag of the X5000. which people may prefer to wait for at this stage.

Where is your source for this price of a X5000 complete system? I didn't think the price would be set, until A-Eon actually announces they are available to purchase outside the beta tester program. I see nothing on their website, or Trevor's blog.

Never occured to you that the reason could be that he would not ship outside the country?

He was happy for the buyer to arrange a courier collection.

Advert is lying unless its coming with OS4.2 with dual core support it will only use 1 core x1000 had the same bad advert hype of dual core but still the os can only use 1.

That tweeted picture is from Oct. 2, 2015.

Things could have changed between then and now, but maybe not, and Trevor & Matthew can offer the X5000 at that predicted price. The hardware has, after all, been done for quite some time, and is only waiting for the completion of the AmigaOS4.1FE port.

Strange that they would tweet that picture, but not make any official announcement about the price on A-Eon's website.

It doesn't say in the advert that it will ship with a dual core enabled version of OS4.x.

@Rob & g01df1sh

Maybe that's what's taking them so long? It is not a ported version of AmigaOS 4.1 that they are working on. It's the finalization of AmigaOS 4.2 that they are waiting for.
