Yeah, and we be all flying up to hebbin upon our passing.
A new version of Timberwolf will be included, as will Libre Office.
And the winner of this year's Presidential elections in the US will provide a worthwhile leader.

Personally, I'm putting the X5000 on the list I send to Santa Claus, because I can't obtain it on my own.

BTW - Since no one answered, I will ask this again.
What is the amount due at pre-order?
The entire price, a percentage of the price, or a fixed amount?
What was the required amount for an X1000 pre-order?

AmigaOS 4.2?
Do you really think that will ever be released?

Or maybe no.

That sounds like you're expressing your frustration.

Not really. The hardware is (at least) ready since the beginning oif 2015 (A-EON wanted to ship the X5000 9/2016) and the planned OS for the X5000 is and was AmigaOS4.1 FE. It makes no sense to delay the release even more to get AmigaOS4.2 ready.

@AP

Also Costel said that after the A1222 version is released there'll be an update to FE across all supported platforms to bring them up to the same level. I presume that after that Thomas will have more time to concentrate on implementing the MP solution in the X Kernel.

Part frustration, part cynicism.
I want to run a tri-boot system with MorphOS, Linux, and OS4.
The first two could be installed almost immediately.
OS4.1? Who knows when that will be ready.
And it is only a port.
It should never have taken this long.

As for OS4.2?
That could take SO much longer.
And I am not sure that the goals set for the OS are attainable without breaking legacy applications.

I guess it is hard to mediate irony over the Internet. Of course I don't really believe that they are planning to release AmigaOS 4.2 the same time as X5000, but of course I believe it will be released some day.

A matter of fact, it is. He should be seen as a role model for believing as he was mostly right.

Yes. Amiupdate turned out to be a bad idea as it became very difficult to pinpoint which update bugs got snucked in. The old model of update packs worked better.

I've used WinUAE quite a bit in addition to my (now sold) SAM460ex. In terms of using old software, using UAE has been a better experience for me than using Petunia in OS4.x. Why not break compatibility in OS4.2? Why not have a 64bit OS4.2? As long as we have a nice version of UAE, we should be able to use older programs. MorphOS uses a sandbox. AROS uses UAE. Why shouldn't AmigaOS4.2 use a sandbox/UAE for legacy software? I would think that would be simpler than worrying that a 20 year old program isn't going to work with 4.2. Many 20 year old programs don't even work with 4.1 without using UAE. Even when 2.04 came out, it broke compatibility with many 1.3 applications and games.

I have had OS4.1 and Linux running on my Sam460ex since 2011...
But I'm still waiting for MorphOS (no Radeon drivers).

(I'm not interested in buying a second hand Mac, I always buy new computers)

@PhantomInterrogative

That was pretty much my argument for expanding MorphOS PPC to 64bits.
Sandbox the legacy portion on one core and let the 64 bit side use the other cores.
With a common GUI it should present far less problems for legacy code.

Radeon 9200 PCI would work.
Radeon X1950XT would also work.

Both with accelerated support.

No accelerated Radeon HD drivers yet, but several compatible Radeon cards exist.

@iggy

The problem is that there is no overlap in terms of driver (2D & 3D )functionality in PCIe form and it's not always possible to have 9250 in the PCI slot.

Even if the PCI slot is free or not obscured you have to chose to sacrifice video performance on one OS to benefit the other.

Sorry, I meant Radeon HD of course!

The standard graphics cards regarding Sam460ex is/was Radeon HD 4650 and these cards are regarded
as outdated by the OS4.1 developers today! I fear they must think your recommendations are more suited for museums...
I have an old Radeon HD 4550 1GB and It's to low spec to run Warp 3D!

So I'm waiting for 2D & 3D accelerated Radeon HD drivers for MorphOS so that I can try it out...
