1. How long do you use AROS weekly? A couple of hours per week.
2. What is the way you use AROS (multiple selection allowed):
c) AROS Native on virtual hardware Icaros Desktop.
3. What are your 3 main activities in AROS? General tinkering, DOpus Magellan, Internet Browsing.
4. Think about the things that would make you use AROS more? Please be descriptive, but focus on things you,not community would need nor "in general would be needed" - in sense that if it was available, you would use AROS more.
I'd have to think more about this. I'm pretty content with what I can do with Icaros Desktop. |

i have published it also on my aros vision facebook page (640 follower at the moment) and on a1k.org (german site). Hopefully some more people read it and answer. Additional on amigaform.de and on a1k.org (german site) Last edited by OlafS25 on 15-Jun-2016 at 04:48 PM.

first answers from a1k:
Doc
1. Tested it a few years ago 2. d (wants to test it on real A1200 with 68020 3. Play around with it and see what is possible 4. will use it more when Kick 1.3 software works on it
Cego
No Aros user but would do more with it when it would work as a optimized version on A1200 with 68060 as replacement for 3.9 when patches like FBlit/BlazeWCP are integrated
PeterLustig
Has tested it one year ago in virtual environment and was positive surprised about the potential. It was at that stable enough and he wished a more transparent 68k emulation (have asked him if he tested 68k Integration in Icaros Desktop yet). He has not yet tested it on 68k but it is a potential replacement for 3.X there.
tommyw
He is just playing around with Aros. 1.In the past 2-3 times a week, now again. He had problems with stability of Aros 2.Aros native on real hardware 3.Janus-UAE for playing games, playing around with Janus configs and Grub, hearing music 4.He has the question if someone already used WLAN on Aros. He needs a tutorial in german how to. Improving hardware compatibility, making it easier to connect to internet, manual in german and a update manager
maw2k
1.End of last year played around with it a little 2. c (virtualbox) 3. + 4. no comment
pehy
1.has tested it 2014, liked it but what to do with it without being able to run amiga software (have hinted him to the distros). 2.used it hosted on linux (and will do that again) 3.testing of Aros and integrated software 4.would use it more if he could replace the kickrom in amiga with Eprom with Aros to use 3.1 software
DJBase
wanted to use it for his A1200 years ago
Amiga-Aktivist
has tested 68k version every few years but as long speed and compatiblity of workbench replacement is limited he will not use it
So from my view there seem two areas often mentioned... interest to use it on 68k hardware even potential replacing 3.X and stability issues. Also documentation in german seems needed and everything must become easier. It seems much is related to the distributions and how easy they are for average users. |

bigmac (translation is mine):
I´m big AROS fan, actually last OWB enhanced my user experience... BUT...
Developement of AROS is - how to write - disgusting. ABI V0 is full of bugs, but most of work is centered on ABI V1. Sometimes bug is found and corrected in V1, but not in V0 (nobody will back port it!). ABI V0 is then in "catatonic state" and bugs hinder developement of new software. Good example is Mapparium by ALB42: AREXX support is turned OFF in AROS version. With even more sophisticated software these limitations sum up and sometimes no port is made, because author doesn´t like half-baked work.
ABI V1 is still only toy for developers, there is no software for it. Paradoxically, only exception is AROS 68k which can run also AmigaOS applications. |

Would love modern development tools. I.e. Java, Mono and the like. The more it would let me do, the more I'd likely use it. If I could ever get past my current distractions...

| @ALL,
I'm currently uses Icaros Desktop 2.1.2 (the current version) which I installed on a USB pen drive and using with my Commodore VIC-Slim from CommodoreUSA.
Model spec: (short form) Processor: Intel Atom D2700 with it's integrated graphics. RAM: 4 GB of DDR something (can't recall if its DDR2 or DDR3 or something but its SO-DIMM not desktop standard.... more like laptop and netbooks as that's really what the mobo inside is made for.
USB: 32 GBytes thumb drive.
Ethernet: (on mobo) Realtek 8111/8168B (That's what it tells me in the Commodore-OS Vision Linux distro (on the SATA SSD that is installed ). WiFi: RaLink 5390 (Again from the Linux side) - AROS said basically similar information
While I haven't found a working ethernet driver (at the moment) for the onboard Ethernet. I didn't bother testing the WiFi.
I did have a USB Ethernet adapter module that I got cheap.... IT WORKED. As one of the ASIX.... gobbly gook. (ASIX 88772 0x0b95 0x7720 0x0 ---- specs) It showed up on the AROS system as one of those.
I chose that Vic-Slim for the AROS work that I have plans to do stuff for... for obvious reasons like a nice C= logo and all and it's kind of slick and all. I still have my hearts for that Commodore Amiga 1200 I still have.
Apart for adding myself into the statistics, I am also curious to what the size of the AROS user base. This information is important from a commercial perspective and plays some importance in decisions made.
Thank You.
Sincerely,
