@Rob

Yeah, like I need someone who isn't in the market encouraging the manufacturer to cancel the model I want to buy.
"Humble"? Like Donald Trump maybe.

Like what?

At these prices, the best you can expect is a handful of adopters for even the entry level model - making any sort of software development that will take advantage of SMP impractical.

Both X1000 and A1222 have dual core CPU.

They sold all the X1000s and that was more expensive.

@Rob / pavlor

Which will increase the user base from negligible to marginal.

I understand the capability SMP support brings, but I'm genuinely wondering which applications will be developed to take advantage of it.

AND, the P5020 based X5000 is a dual core.
So, the P5040 based version will have twice as many cores (as all other recent AmigaOnes) and provide about twice the performance under Linux (which I expect most users to use as an alternate to OS4 - at least part of the time).

The performance increase in non-Amiga OS', AND the fact that the P5010 isn't that much less expensive (than the P5020 or P5040) makes your argument somewhat pointless.

X1000 adopters were in many cases remaining software developers, do you think they wouldn´t use both CPU cores, if possible?

New applications aside, even current software can (in theory) take advantage of "SMP": eg. you can run office software on one core and webbrowser on the other.

There's also an interview with Trevor on today's Retro Hour podcast, with some BIG X5000 news :)

Ah, OK. His username is Paul DS and he's got a 1995 Mondeo if that helps. Last year a few club members attended the 30th Ford Fair show but I had to leave early to attend the Amiga 30th.

To be honest Mex, I was suprised when Rich told me you went to the Amiga 30th anniversary event in Peterborough (i knew you told us Amiga whilst on the stand but i didnt think i heard you right lol). Yeah I wanted to go to that and was even invited by Dan Wood. Bet it was good!

For me, the best news is Tabor booting to Workbench and expected release in 2017. It will be a close race, but I may be able to win my little bet.

Huh? I haven't made any claims about performance.

I'm asking if having multiple cores and SMP will result in any native software support.

Hey, you were promised it weren't you?
Or is OS4.2 the myth I think it is?

And its already been pointed out to you that nothing prevents the use of more than one core now in with an ASMP approach.

Again, I don't care what YOU want, I only care about what I want to buy.
So unless you're in the market for a system, why don't you STFU?
