Andy, the job you do is really fabulous. Looking forward to test it. Now we are going to have a great calendar system, and in conjuction with the calendar widget of enhancer, the whole thing becomes even better.

@broadblues

Another little teaser, can you spot the deliberate mistake?

(click for fullsize image)

Defintely planning on going to AmiStore with version 2.x of AOrgansiser, as it's been quite alot of work to get this far, how much would you guys pay for an updated Calendar with CalDav sync support (optmised for Google Calendar at the start) more fields in the events, alarms of different types etc etc?

@broadblues

You (on purpose!) misspelled "Until" as "Untill".

@broadblues

If it syncs hassle-free, I'll be glad to pay 50€, however I think 19€ is more realistic. Nevertheless I am wondering how much work it is to update. Using Thunderbird for this kind of purpose, I encounter quiet a few api(?) changes through caldav/google. From time to time I am not able to sync, until thunderbird/plugin author fixed the problems.

Oh yeah, fixed. That wasn't the "deliberate mistake" though, it's a heck of a lot more subtle, and in the emited VEVENT structure

"in the emited VEVENT structure"

"BEGIN:VALARM" ended by "END:ALARM" instead of 'END:VALARM" ?

Aha! That wasn't it either but you probably solved my "Status 400 - Error Malformed Request" that I got very late last night on my first attempt to sync an event with an alarm. Sycing from the server was working syncing to it broke when I added the VALARM.

Thanks

plain VEVENTS without alarms set are syning perfectly BTW

The "actual mistake" is the TRIGGER:P7101W...

set 7000 weeks into the future, because of an unsigned relative date.

@broadblues

I used some ancient version of AOrganiser to replace Digita's Organiser many years ago. Great little program.

Btw., that event window could really use some tabs by now At least "Event", "Alarm" and "Action" or something like that. And since event descriptions can contain linebreaks (most of mine do, I often paste entire mails as event descriptions), shouldn't "Note:" be a textarea instead of a string gadget?

I'd certainly pay for CalDAV support if I was still using AO, but certainly not the 19 € somebody suggested - 6 to 10 € sounds more like it (I know that doesn't cover the actual work spent on it, but that's no the idea). Partly because of the slow update cycle (2010, 2014, 2017?) which might be a problem if you're tackling the can of worms called syncing, partly because a decent calender on its own is only one third of what I need, which would be a calender and an address book with syncing aswell as a MUA with IMAP support.

I assume CalDAV and CardDAV are quite similar? write a decent global address book with CardDAV support, make sure YAM/SimpleMail support it instead of their own address books - then sell AO and ABook as a bundle. That would be an interesting offer.

Making the notes into a texteditor.gadget is on my todo list, and once I've done that the extra space will probably push me into tabs too. Though I do like being able to see all the info in a single window...

It did what I needed and only had afew minor bugs to fix I'd need it to keep syncing, so I'd fix issues occuring sooner rather than later.

Address book is on my much longer term todo, I'd probably realease it as standalone, yet intergratable component of what I originally called the AORgansier suite, thought a suite with 1 compnent as it is now, is a bit of a missnomer.

They CalDAV and CardDAV a very similar.
Syncing my diary is very important, to avoid double bookings etc syncing contacts much less so, hence the fact that AOrganiser - addressbook never happened. (TurboCalc holds my address book 'database' at the moment).

All good points thanks for the feedback.

I am using Dairy as calendar for some time now and the only missing bit is the alarm/auto reminder and maybe a search fonction.
I am not using any other calendar on other system so this dav thing is not for me !

I am willing to pay between 5 to 10 euros for your hard work

@broadblues

Here is another teaser pic.

It shows the event TimeZone feature.

I had to write a fair chunk of my own TZ data parsing code as the timezone.library API is only useful for determining thw details of various times at this current instant, not ata generalised moment in time.

Was able to use the data in Locale:TimeZones though.

If you look at the time displayed in the main diary window as compared with that in the event you will see that it is correct for both the event (Asia/Tokyo) and local diary timezone (Europe/London) and takes Daylight savings at the time of the event into account.

Also you can see that the "Active Day" is now highlighted, this day is the date that is always displayed as you switch from DAY/WEEK/MONTH view etc.

The current date gadget has been merged into one gadget and can be clicked on to jump back to' 'today'.

Also added keyboard navigation via the arrow keys

LEFT / RIGHT move by 1 day
SHIFT LEFT / RIGHT by 1 page (2day, 1 week, 1 month)
ALT LEFT / RIGHT by 1 'super page' (1 week, 1 month 1 year)

I've changed the left right gadgets to match this behaviour.

Now to add some more menu items to add GUI level access to some of the lowerle ARexx only functionality I've added....

@broadblues

So after nearly three months (*THREE MONTHS!!!*) I've finally implmented the last of my planned features for the AmiStore release.

Alarms!

There are 4 kinds NOTIFY,SOUND,EMAIL , and ACTION.

NOTIFY can use RingHIO or Requester class on a case by case basis with RingHIO the current default.

SOUND plays a sound file via datatypes

EMAIL current allows you to set a remote email notification on google calendar but has no local action.

ACTION allows you to run commands at a specified time relative to the event.

The old action and end action are now replaced by the action alarm, any preexisting ones in a saved diary are converted on loading into alarms with zero offset. The alrm in the image is just one such converted action.

l've increased the number of formatting options in the alarm argumants field.

Notice also the calendar gadget has a bit of makeover with independent setable fonts and customisable colours, infact all the pens used can be setup, so anyone who doesn't like my theme can create their own.

So some fine tuning and documenting and I'm nearly there.

Three to four hundred hours more work than I was expecting at the beginning of the year!

looks terrific! i've been very excited about this one; it will be nice to have a desktop copy of my calendar without having to redo all the entries by hand. i'll be able to retire digita organiser at long last.

@broadblues

A question regarding Alarm.

On the picture you posted i see that the alarm can be set and hold back for a given time period (even days).

I'd need some more possibilities to "remind" me on set dates.

I'm often days away from the computer so i would need these possibilities:

1) A *future* reminder set to a date, but which will remind *before* (a number of given days or hours) an alarm was set, so i won't forget that i have to attend something *in the future*, e.g. birthdays so i can get presents in time...

2) Add an *important* switch, which will pester the user with a requester that he/she has to take notice of and only after clicking it away drop the reminding. So that even *after* the alarm was set and even *after* the timeframe was passed where it should still alarm me, the window will pop up telling me that there was an important thing going on. So, i can still react to it, albeit late...always better to no reaction at all.

Second option combinable with first option.
