Why? For an increased chance that the board will be prototyped for the chance it will be released in small batch quantities for Linux customers so that there is a slim chance that Hyperion / A-EON will assess it for the porting of AmigaOS?
... that's a long shot and what do we get for our money in the meantime? Warm fuzzies that we've made Linux PPC lovers a potential new laptop? |
Surprise, Surpriise, Surprise...
PPC Laptop Project Team revealed just today that ACube is working at Amiga OSes (Os-es means more than one OS) Drivers portings for the Audio Chip that will be mounted on the Laptop Motherboard...

Most important thing in this project is: ACube in this project cooperate with C-Media "C-Media is a global leading audio IC/software solution provider." We all know what problems new board have with audio AEon/ACube should go in partnership with this company to make a standrad, just like with radeon cards and drivers in graphic area. |
Just like I wrote. A Eon should contact them, and make partnership together with ACube for future projects._________________ F1 Srbija |

You obviously missed the part of Trevor's Amiwest presentation where he said the X5000+ would ship with a new PCIe sound card and driver. It was fairly easy to join the dots without this latest snippet of news.
You can also easily find SATA 3 cards and USB 3 cards that have the same chips the notebook will use, so drivers for those could be developed in advance of the actual hardware and would not be a wasted effort if the hardware doesn't make it to market. |

Yes but as long as we are now aware AmigaOS is amongst the targets of the PPC Laptop Project platforms, please consider donate, you people..._________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." It turns out that the A-EON driver is not for C-Media based cards. |

I'm not Rob's source, but considering what we've been betatesting in the Enhancer circles, it is indeed not a C-Media driver._________________ The Rear Window blog

I read it, thanks, but realisticly al those components - most or even every component is NOT used in current Amigaone's. There a lot of new fresh drivers needed, not only for a soundchip like the C-Media.
And I am not even talking about the requirements of a notebook/laptop: - energy saving by disable cores, - putting the gpu in some lower energy state, - battery charging level in the GUI, - support for the trackpad, - support for closing the laptop.
MorphOS has most implemented for Powerbooks, but OS4 has nothing yet.
Everybody interested in AmigaNG knows how long a driver development can take (Tabor, X1000).

The interesting news is that ACube is developing the very early Amiga-Like OS drivers for the new Laptop... They have been starting from the Audio Driver, sure the most easier to realize. Point.
Any other considerations, problems, issues, lack of features like putting CPU in IDLE Power-saving state, will be explored when Solid Silicon test Motherboards had had been realized.
In the meanwhile we can apprecciate ACube for the fact they started early to make necessary drivers.
This simple fact means at ACube they are experienced , they know perfectly what is needed for our platform and they are advancing their duties anticipating driver making.
Donating for the Laptop project will sure help ACube efforts.
Sitting by the river side and awaiting for dead project corpses or victory new computer parades to follow the river flow means nothing at this point.
People who want the changes, then they helps the changes being realized. _________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." (J.L. Gassée, former CEO of Apple France and chief of devs of Mac II-fx, interviewed by Amazing Computing, Nov 1996). |

Last update: 9 days left for Phase1B
"The tentative deadline for Phase1B is 18th November so there are two weeks left to donate the remaining 2600 euros. If we will reach the goal, the PCB with SI bus simulation should be ready by the middle of December."

Common : on first image R0402, then multiple C0402s - then a switch to R0603s - I cannot read the full 42 page slideshow - its blurred - my eyes must be failing me.
On closer inspection, on trying to find components that could still be used within max their tolerances - a question arises - has anyone info on the remaining images ? At least one looked cropped.
I could not find camera info.
Do we have any info on the manufacturing company or what specifically are their assembly systems. what is the exact part count currently.
Will hardware be easily upgradable, eg slot in ?
Software side What exactly is the build process, which drivers are actually complete on a platform basis.
I would love to see bandwidth stress test videos - its so fascinating :D
Ideally you want to accelerate JSON/JS as much as possible.
How fast can it compile full linux distros in parallel < 15mins would be good.

What exactly are you looking at? Searching the schematic PDF does not find anything 0402, R or C, or for 0603.
Are you looking at the schematic PDF, the shape and placement "layout" PDF, or something else?
If you are talking about the decoupling caps, you do need one of those per power pin on a chip and some connectors. Cannot consolidate. Bad...
Please share some instance names to investigate... _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |
