lol well seeing as that the planned PPC notebook fell through a few years ago for A-Eon/Hyperion hopefully they can take some of that work and put it into this notebook?? so maybe miraculously we can remove 1 0 from that previous figure _________________ ____________________________ c64-2sids, A1000, A1200T-060@50(finally working!),A4000-CSMKIII ! Holy cow. 86.8c. Haven't seen that sort of heat for a long, long while. |

Ah! Good f'ing K...rist. Its NOT an Aeon project, NOR is it an Acube project.
Its being explored by a group of us that have contacted Acube to contract for their assistance. Acube has offered to create the schematics necessary for a T2080/e6500 cored laptop motherboard, buy we have to PAY for those (the price IS very reasonable though).
Funding for this part of the project was supposed to commence about April 30th, but has been postponed until mid-May.
SO, you should see some announcements about it very soon.
In the meanwhile, could you please give credit where credit is due? We definitely don't want this mistaken for any of the failed projects in the past.

Even the 10 core / 20 thread i7's don't generate that sort of heat, nor the 8 core / 16 thread i7's or Ryzen CPUs.
The only CPUs that I know of that get that hot these days are Xeons with more than 10 cores. I wonder what system that is. Seems unusually hot.
And yes, in response to your comment, I have seen many systems with 8 or more cores. They're not exactly rare. |

Sure they would, without proper cooling they would get quite a bit hotter and self destruct. The PPC cpu discussed in the thread draws MUCH less power than ANY i7 or Ryzen derived cpu.

Not your fault, your additions dovetail in quite well. I've always wanted to see one of those boards.
Its just the earlier comments that would lead some readers to think that the laptop project had something to do directly with one of the companies currently involved in the Amiga trademark feeding frenzy that is a bit frustrating. Last edited by iggy on 27-Apr-2017 at 10:45 AM.

Nonsense. CPUs have had intricate thermal diodes for well over a decade. When temperatures hit a specified heat they shut themselves down. Threshold is typically 80 - 90c, but as I said, its user definable.
Also, the "without proper cooling" suggestion is pretty well moot. *Any* CPU without proper cooling will get hot to a point of damage without measures in place (such as aforementioned diodes and infrastructure). There's plenty of weaker CPUs that can run without cooling, regardless of the architecture (typing this on a quad core x86 tablet with hyperthreading for example), but its a trade off. The ppc CPU in question is another example. That said, sub 3ghz i7s are very economical. 15w is perfectly achievable. |

Sure...try starting an i7 or Ryzen system without a cooler and find how far THAT idea gets you. Personally, I value my investment too much to be that DUMB.
You make SO many statements based on opinions or faith, occasionally you ought to let reality settle in.
And, btw, there are no 15 watt i7 cpus, if there were, you wouldn't need anything but passive cooling. Last edited by iggy on 27-Apr-2017 at 11:30 AM.

There are 12 core low power Xeons that are passively cooled (45 W TDP).
