well since AOTL's mandate was to support new AmigaNG hardware running AmigaOS and the plain fact that the only other manufacturer of new AmigaNG hardware is A-Cube this decision to bad mouth the main hardware supplier of their mandate is very suspicious indeed...the fact that they insinuate that developer donations are also affected make it even more so

this from their 'Mission' page:
Our Mission

Simply:

We are here to grow the AmigaOS4.1 user base!!

If you go to the A-EON site there's a list of dealers, see below.
For now there is only one complaining and it's the latest to enter the scene.

Funny this is the guy who sang Trevor's praises not so long ago. If he entered the Amiga scene to make a living then this is not that surprising and perhaps a way to cut his losses and exit.

@Srtest

And the blog was updated as late as 9th of May. http://amigaonthelake.com/blog/the-xena-research-project/

What happened between that date and today? Well, we have the Ars Technica article published on the 24th of May. Anything else?

Lets not start pointing fingers at anyone to blame, but it would be nice to hear what amigakit has to say about the fallout.

Better than an explanation for why the "fallout" happened, would be a resolution to what ever the problem was, and a retraction by AOTL, regarding their decision to no longer carry any products from, and/or to no longer support anything related to A-Eon or AmigaKit.

This community and market is too tiny to have dealers/distributors fighting with the people providing hardware, and funding software development.

Uh, you're all speculating about the cause of this already, without a reason being stated by AOTL.
Now you want a statement from AmigaKit or Aeon?

How about we all BACK OFF, until we have some idea what this is about?

This is a community in spite of dissapointments, constant trolling and completely being ignored by the mainstream until recently. BoingBear is right and we deserve better. You don't do that in amigaland given its history. Were this supposed to be the people who get this cultural and community enterprise forward? doesn't look like it from the comment itself or the lack of clarity from both sides. Hyperion would have been obliterated it they would have behaved like this. To me it seems like a case of missed expectations that should have been checked with maybe some sort of gurarantees that weren't precise (2 more weeks?) and were controlled by a certain party. All the enthusiasts deserve better not just those with funds. This didn't last for 30 years based on available funds and resources, you can testify on that more than I can. What we take and give and move it along to whatever hope comes up is what made the old Amiga to have enough life in it to endure and prosper new offsprings. This song is not about anyone in particular which might have gotten lost some place along the way.

First off, personally I'd love to see Hyperion "obliterated".
As to whatever "song" is being played, seems pretty obvious that the only US Amiga vendor that I know of doesn't want to deal with AmigaKit or Aeon.

I don't know why, nor do I really want to speculate, except to say that considering his business he likely had a good reason.
Most likely, as I've been in business myself, it was a bottom line issue of basic profitability.

That being said, I just placed an order with him for an OWC SSD (which was priced better than if I had bought it directly from the vendor).

I wanted to eventually purchase an X5000 from AOTL, but will now have to look elsewhere.

This hurts ME, and the few of us left in the US, NOT the majority of you.

So your opinions really aren't that relative to me.

You might not know how the global economy works. Ordering the X1k from the UK added something like 20% to the cost of the X1k which wasn't so cheap... I actually started to investigate if I know people who work frequently in the US for what might be future transactions. Maybe and I say this again, this is not just about you and as seen from the comments you can find quite a lot of people who care about this situation and really do not approach it from a rational distance. This might be part of the issue which gave birth to this entire situation but this is all we have. That is my point.

no way. aaron is a great guy who was truly committed to this platform. i have no doubt whatsoever that this decision was made solely for financial/business reasons. and they'd have to be serious to force him to take this drastic an action.

i'm really sorry it has turned out like this for AOTL. those guys are great. i guess i'll have to switch to
amigastore.eu for future purchases of A-EON software.

Right, Aaron IS a great guy and its not WAS committed to this platform, its IS.

As I have posted elsewhere, this comment was included after my last order just yesterday "Thanks Jim. We WILL be doing other stuff to help AmigaOS4 and Morph and AROS trust me"

So, while we can only speculate, the timing of AmigaKit offering direct X5000 sales might indicate the reason.

"If he entered the Amiga scene to make a living..."

Seriously? No one is really making a living (except, maybe, Matt).
But, in order to remain viable, a business does have to generate a profit by producing or selling something (unless you're Amiga Inc and you can talk people out of funds for stuff you don't really own).

Sad day indeed.
Along with the "dog fights" over the Amiga trademarks, it illustrates just how ridiculous things have gotten.

Invest time and energy in the Amiga market?
You'd have to be committed (or maybe, as I've said before, you should be).

They clearly went into this without any illusion about making money, Amiga On the Lake is more of a side activity for the guys, doing something they enjoy, and not expecting any profit for many years at least. Apparently, dealing with A-EON and AmigaKit is not so... enjoyable.

And even if not so enjoyable for aotl, then there no needs to bring that personal hate to the face of customers. I mean .. How it can be that text in their "our mission" saying about growing user base, and then, right on the first page, emotional, deprecing, personal attacking, pointing by finger post. How it help at all to grow user base ? Again spreading that sucking anger and hate all over the place with pointing by finger on guilty ones, so customers must to sniff all that shit ? Didn't we have enough of it back in the past so all should grow up over it already ?

You know I LIKE you personally, but a Russian discussing interrelational intrigue?

That would be like me being dumb enough to say that Trump (the Russian choice for US President) was a trustworthy guy.

I feel pity for you if you not troll, but for real think that ppls who live in one part of earth somehow different to the ppls living in the other part of earth. As well as if your phrase about Trump is real, and not another troll attemp, then its not pity, but facepalm.

Sometimes it is the party who complains that is the one at fault.
In such cases they are reacting to some sanctions by the party who they are complaining about.
Sanctions being as a result of not adhering to the guidelines to which the protesting party agreed to operate under .

We're 60 posts later but all we have is speculation. I think it's annoying AOTL is so vague in their statement, but I hope the dusts settles so we can soon see what is lurking behind the clouds.
