"Guillaume, i am trying to set up FastView print screen using your APPDIR suggestion and the F keys"

Like DaveyW, I use AllKeys instead of FKey.
In AllKeys, use :
-"Add" button
-"Key Learning window" opens and push your PrtScr key
-Select the key event that you grabbed and hit "Use Code"
-Insert "APPDIR:FastView SCREENGRAB GUI=NO" in the command column.
-"Save"

It should work.

The next one I am going to look at today is MPlayer which is a port from Linux and appeared on the Amiga in about 2014.

Typo?

It's been around since 2004.

@outrun1978

I can't get MPlayer to play DVDs, commercial or otherwise, so if you can, I'd like to see that covered.

I have the same problem with my A1XE; when I switched from PATA to SATA, I lost the ability to play DVDs with MPlayer.

On my A1XE, DVPlayer works fine, but on my X5000, it seems to to be unable to work through the CSS, even though I have the plug-in installed.

In a shell, Work:MPlayer/mplayer dvd:// -fs -nosub >nil: *>nil:
-fs = start full screen
-nosub = no sub titles unless hard coded

Some DVDs just won't play, its hit & miss.

@daveyw

Any DVD's with Macrovision copy protection wont work so it will be pointless trying

On DVD's that do work make sure you select custom device on the Mplayer GUI and in the box to the right enter P5020sata.device to activate the DVD and then select track 1 or 2 to jump to the film

One of the screenshots and videos under the Mplayer section will show this.

No, the same DVD plays fine on my A1XE. Curiously, Mplayer can quite happily rip it.

mplayer -dumpstream -dvd-device p5020sata.device:2 dvd://1 -nocache -noidx -dumpfile Temp:Movie.mpg

Will initiate a brute-force decryption of the disc's css keys, then copy the movie to Temp:Movie.mpg

@outrun1978

Just checking out the blog. Nice one. It's funny how the Amiga is dead to the rest of the world yet there is a always a live blog to read.

I am surprised by two things from what I read. First is that they gave a USB key instead of a CD. That's a bit modern. Second, is that it isn't preconfigured to autoboot a USB key. It's easily done. I've done it on my XE. But on an old machine it isn't pretty to watch.

Managed to do a bit of an update to my blog and overhaul a few bits and pieces and introduce a new layout.

For those interested, i have had a look at word processing options on the X5000 today.

Definitely keep up the blogging...

I just ordered my x5000, and I'm trying to read all I can about NG Amigas. Never had one, been on 3.9 forever though.

I'm enjoying this article:
https://amigax5000.blog/2017/06/30/wordprocessing-options-on-the-x5000/

Thanks for it!
(after I quit my plan to get a better car, I might afford x5000, it can nicely take me to places, LOL!)

Thanks.

And I just realized I've only posted a couple of times here in 12 years. Geez, what's wrong with me?

Got mine in - a bit buggy I've noticed but I'm working through some of the bugs.

For the most part, it's smooth and fast. Looking forward to the updates of the OS over time to make it a better experience.
