| I'm sure I heard a games developer mention an Amiga Mini was in the works when interviewed either for a podcast or at a convention. I don't know if he had just heard it as gossip or if he'd already been approached about licencing games for it.
If it happens I'm 99% sure it'll be an ARM SoC emulation based device. There's no way they would go with ASICs or FPGAs for a device that's about just doing retro games and maximising profits. So nothing that interesting that you can't do with a Raspberry Pi or similar, just in a pretty case. |

If you want a mini version of various computers why not go for a MiST FPGA Box instead. I have one and can wholeheartedly recommend others get one too. The Amiga OCS/AGA cores work really well, you also have the ability to load so many different cores on to one box without the limitations imposed on other mini machines where for example on the NES or SNES you cannot load any more games on to the system.
The MiST outputs to your TV via Scart or VGA, you can play with classic joysticks and joypads or USB ones and you can plug in your own mouse and keyboard. Moreover, its one small box as opposed to goodness knows how many small boxes.
It may look ugly, but there is nothing stopping you using the box as a blank canvas to have something unique painted on/covering it as I have seen others do.

All the pictures showed a RasperryPI with a case you can get for 19Pounds. The Amiga Mini case for 19 Pounds
If there are any 'developers' they will only make a special Linux distribution with UAE and games, something you can download everywhere.Last edited by OneTimer1 on 07-Oct-2017 at 02:18 PM.

| @OneTimer1 The pictures shown have nothing to do with this Amiga Mini project as I understand it. |

Maybe they took own pictures but the device they where talking about here: https://www.tomshw.it/amiga-mini-sogno-diventera-realta-88742 looks exaclty like the RaspberryPI with the Commodore Amiga Raspberry Pi Case from retropicases.comLast edited by OneTimer1 on 07-Oct-2017 at 02:43 PM. Based on reading a negative comment that I did not quite nderstand on another site, I googled some of the principals. Here's one article:
Crowdfunding Fraudsters Update
Note: it discusses both Retro Computers Ltd. and Retro Games Ltd. and the similar persons involved. Given what I've heard privately, I believe it is in the best interest of all parties to make a clear statement as to what is going on before more trouble arises.

The SNES Mini comes with two SNES controllers, 21 official games, and is "plug and play".
The same goes for the C64 mini.
That's what you cannot do with a Pi. I guess adding the price of an SDCard, HDMI + USB cable would already make a Pi more expensive than a SNES mini.
I know you can do all that with a Raspberry Pi (and even more), but people sometimes want an easy (easy as in "plug and play") solution. That's what brings SNES mini, C64 mini, and hopefully would bring an Amiga mini.
I know a lot of nostalgic fans of Amiga computer that wouldn't be capable of writing some retroarc distribution on an SDCard to use it in a Pi. And I am not even talking about getting access to the kickstart rom, game image files,..._________________ http://www.warpdesign.fr/ |

Thank you number6 for reaching out to me directly.
I've been trying to track the source of this, and the explanation that Paul Andrews graciously provided is: "I am guessing there were questions [at the Milan Games Week] along the lines of – 'would you create an Amiga Mini' and my answers would have been along the lines of – that's a possibility but nothing is confirmed yet".
In this age where quick clicks seem to count more than ever, many sites seem to be unable to follow basic rules of journalism, like fact checking with the parties they cite. My advice would be to not use these Italian sites as a source for anything.
Cloanto is not working on some new Amiga computer, nor has it announced anything in this respect. Any news to the contrary are not only incorrect, but they are fueling tensions in difficult times. We are aiming for clarity, and we know that this is not the way to achieve it.

How is the performance running later AGA titles like AB3D II, Gloom Deluxe etc.? To be honest I don't need a separate box, since I can just launch WinUAE on PC in seconds, but the FPGA is a different and interesting take on emulation since it isn't just UAE in a small box running on ARM or x86. Gloom Deluxe and AB3D run well on the Mist Box, I'd say comparable to a 68030 accelerated set up thanks to the extra 24MB of ram that you can add on the AGA core. I have mine set up running Amiga OS3.9 and have both the AGA and OCS cores running on the same SD Card with a complete set of WHDload installs That same SD card also has an Atari ST core with complete set of games on it, Commodore 64 Core again with a complete set of games, along with complete set ups for Atari 8 bit, Master System, NES, Atari 2600, Sam Coupe and Spectrum. You easily switch between cores at a flick of switch or via the joypad.
Some cores like a PC Engine, Amstrad CPC or an MSX require a separate SD Card due to the file system, but it is not the end of the world to have different cores on different cards. If you have a 15khz monitor you will also get more satisfaction out of some of the other cores like an Acorn Archimedes.
Lotharek who makes and sells the MIST boards has a good website explaining the various bits and pieces and there are quite comprehensive set up guides at www.lotharek.pl.
Epsilon has done a good review of it too http://amigax1000.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/mist-minimig-aga-system-has-arrived.html
Again I cannot recommend this great little box enough to people, its much more expandable than these mini boxes which will be trying to cash in on the retro wave.

AW broken again.
There is no post in my edit box, so I am unable to fix the hanging quote issue in my last post. This is NOT normal for my browser and I've read similar claims many times before.
Heh. Now my last post (referred to above) has completely vanished, whereas I just read it on AW...

LOL. That's the first time I've seen fugly applied to a material object. :
But I think they've done it. Scroll down. The C64 is in second place to the number one winner, the BBC B! What an insult! Bler! |
