That's less precision than on a C64.

At least the numbers could be bigger than we had it on a C64.

| Happy to report LightWave fpu versions seem to be working without fault on my Amiga 500 with Vampire, thanks to Core 2.7. This was my main interest, as LW remains my favorite Amiga software package after all these years. It's a treat to use it on the old A500 with the new Vampire.
Haven't had a ton of time with 2.7 yet, but also can report floating point versions of VistaPro and MakePath are working as well.

| Maybe we can ask some smart user if they can run Lightwave on a C64, LOL
Good to hear it works fine and fast on your 2.7, tho

I've run it under OS4 too (detailed on my old YouTube video), but there are some hoops to jump through to get it mostly working and still some problems. No problems observed so far on the Vampire setup.
The big hiccup I've had with 2.7 is my Plipbox stopped working. So I have now ordered the parts I need to get an SDNet solution going. _________________

You could be right. It would make sense to have a RTG hardware cursor just like in a "real" graphic card. Since this has been common for years. The Commodore C16 set the way of the future with a hardware cursor. And PC's are still doing the same thing now! LOL. |

Tried rendering a complex scene on a "real" 68k fpu vs that of a Vampire/Apollo? Id be interested to see the differences in the rendered image (should make a difference with different floating point precision). Would probably be mostly noticable on high res/highly complex scenes, but would be interesting to see if there's a visible difference for a more basic render. |

The weekend approaches, and I will be able to run some more tests. At moment what I am using is FPU version of LW 3.5 on the A500 with Vampire. All I've done so far is render some frames from the old Spacefighters scene that came with LW, in your basic old NTSC resolution. Will have to do something more complex. _________________

| I registered my board and since then they released new cores with the new serials added and it's still in greyscale. This is utter rubbish.

1. They asked a long time ago that people register their boards. If you had done it when they asked for it intitally, you wouldnt have to deal with the grey. (unless its a hardware issue, which I doubt).
2. There has been unapproved manufacturing of Apollo boards by an ex-apollo teammember (I belive he was a betatester).
3. Some of the earlier run Apollo V600s (like mine) has weaker caps, and might or might not tolerate the Gold 2.7, which is why the Apollo Team considers USB blaster to be more or less mandatory for Vampire owners, incase a Gold update bricks your Vampire, you can flash a JIC file to revive the card. Since I live dangerous, I dont have a USB blaster, so ive limited myself to X11 core.
My impression is that they want to get an idea about how many cards are actively being used, how many are of the old/potentially weaker cap version and how many is unlisenced, see point 2.
They have allowed people to register since the release of Gold 2.7, and I can only assume that there is a lag between a user registering, and the serial nr becoming part of the whitelist in the core. You have to realise that there are limited manpower.
Anyhow, my impression is that the Apollo team mainly reads their own forums (2 of them), so posting there might yield better results.
Forum 1. http://www.apollo-core.com/knowledge.php?b=6¬e=12868&x=2&z=iz4Lky
Forum 2. http://forum.apollo-accelerators.com/
Sidecomment; on forum 1, Ive seen some users commenting that they havent recived their email login details for that forum, and had to resort to asking Gunnar/BigGun directly on IRC for him to validate their forum accounts. He seems very helpful in that regard, but remember that hes sometimes AFK while lurking there, so dont expect instant response if you dont get a reaction from him. Why must V600v2 owner register when the so called counterfeit cards are V500v2 cards.
Why does my V500v2 work with full colours and all with gold core 2.7 even though I never registered?

Maybe because there was a split in the development team.
I don't know details, but I heard they got differences with one of the developers. Since then they started acting strange and asking for registrations. |

Not just one developer, at least two (both Canadians). Acting strangely and attempting to hush down or cover up internal conflicts is nothing new to this project, rather the contrary, it is their prime modus operandi. _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

| Kipper had enough with the hands on soldering, loooooooong waiting lists, and faulty components from his hardware provider. It put him in the hole financially since he sold them at a far too cheap rate.
Users still moaned, and again, eventually he had enough of it all (negativity gets to people, who would have thought kolla).
Not sure if the conflict internally was so severe, thats not the impression Kipper left in his forum posts after he quit production.

Who decided the price tag? Why did he not receive any help from rest of the team to cover his expenses? And again - why do V600v2 owners need to register when it is the V500v2 counterfeits that are the problem? _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |

I wasnt bothered with the request to register my card/V600, so I havent asked why they want it.
As far as the pricetag; Dont know. I remember he/kipper pointing to increase componentcost, so he had to raise price several times. It APPEARED to me like he was deciding the price himself, but thats just speculation on my part based on the comments from him. Last edited by Overflow on 11-Mar-2018 at 08:47 PM.

I never ever said I "hate" the Vampire cards - pay attention.
Also, after all the whining about how I should get a card to have any saying on these matters - why would I sell them? Last edited by kolla on 12-Mar-2018 at 01:12 PM.

And this still does not explain why V600v2 boards need to be registered (while my V500 board apparently does not need registration). _________________ B5D6A1D019D5D45BCC56F4782AC220D8B3E2A6CC |
