I wish I could.

@Trekiej

I don't have room to setup my OS4 system permanently, so I use it as often as possible, approximately 4 days a week, every week. I use a fold-up table in the living room.

My system is fairly simple, a small Antec case, LCD monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Recently, I have been tinkering with rxMUI to create windows and GUI for my ARexx programs.

Also upgraded to NetSurf 3.9 a few days ago.

@Trekiej

I use mine every single day.
I use:
Simplemail for all my personal email.
LimpidClock for calander and appointment reminder.
Odyssey for web browsing
VideoClipper, SimpleSub and ffmpeg with ffmpegGUI for video editing.
AmigaAmp & ATunes for listening to music.
Use ADRipper to rip my CD's to mp3 files.
Use Music-Tagger to edit mp3 tags, including adding album covers.
SMTube or YT with Odyssey to view YouTube Videos.
FastView, LoView or PicShow for viewing pictures. All my pictures are stored on my X1000.
MPlayer and Emotion for viewing videos.
ArtEffects4, FastView among others for editing pictures.
FinalWriter or Abiword for word processing.
MultiEdit for text editing and script writing.
Vpdf for viewing and printing PDF files.
TurboPrint and HPPhotoSmart driver for printing to my HPPhotosmart 5520 printer/scanner.
HPPhotoSmart Front panel or Web interface for scanning.
Ignition or Gnumeric for speadsheets.
WookieChat for IRC.
A-FTP Server for sharing data files to and from my cell phone.
PTP Transfer via USB to transfer pictures from my cell phone.
Just plug in my trailcam via USB so it shows up as a drive on my X1000 for managing pictures, videos.
Use AExplorer to move files between the Windows10 laptop and the X1000
Use Google-Drive software to access my cloud storage from the X1000.
Write and use KT_Scripts among other AREXX scripts to add features to Amiga programs.
Various developer tools for writing software for OS4.

On the occassion whre my X1000 and OS4 can't handle something I use RDesktop to control my Windows10 laptop and use it through my Amiga. Works great.

I'd say there is not really much that I can't use my X1000 for. Having said that, the situation would be even better if we had an improved Web Browser. Then I would have very little need for RDesktop.

What do you wish you could do on OS4 that you can't?

Me too... X5000 is my primary machine, and OS4.1 the default OS. When I need e.g. a more modern browser than Odyssey, I just reboot with Linux and use Firefox or ArcticFox.

Is Rdesktop working only with Windows? I wonder if there is a similar program for controlling (Intel) Linuxes from OS4.1? In some very rare cases I need them in order to be able to run FlashPlayer (there is no perfect port of it for PPC Linuxes).

Regards,

Gregor

Install XRdp in your Linux machine. Or a VNC server.

@ktadd

I use WinUAE and need to get my Amiga Emulation to match my screen size.
I may be a bit lazy on this.
I have an unregistered Win10 installation. Does that cause a problem?
Fedora or Ubuntu would be nice alternatives.

@Trekiej

Some how I am able to get WinUAE and AOS4 to work at 1600 x 900.
I have pink buttons in OWB.
OWB does not seem to redraw or update when resized some times.

Yes, mostly for programing.

However, I have a PC next to it that use YouTube and Facebook.

Have many colors have you selected, are you using same palette as workbench?

Because you do not have hardware acceleration in WinUAE.

No, AmigaOS does depend on the HOST operating system under emulation.
It might even be worst, if your emulating WinUAE on top Wine, if your using native UAE, then I know UAE for Linux has simple GTK gui, my guess is that is probably harder to setup under linux.

Icons: why are they stacked on top of each other?
Cleanup: works.
Snapshot: Will it ever work?

"Icons: why are they stacked on top of each other?"

Have you replaced default icons?
if you have you might copied a icon that has position stored in the icon.
unsnapshot the icon, should help.

"Snapshot: Will it ever work?"

I wonder the same thing sometimes, if volume icons on the workbench, is placed too close they tend to swap places. often when you can't snapshot icons, it can be caused by write protected files. If you coped the files from CD, or did install things the correct way.

Oh, your using WinUAE. I used FlowerPot with the Classic OS4 version to install AmigaOS on my laptop. Installation was pretty easy and things worked without any fiddling around. Definitely worth the very small price they charge. You can get it from AmiKit HERE.

Found a couple of nice blogs on FlowerPot:
Epsilon's Blog
From Exec.pl - Author: Marcin "Piana" Pianka

Having said that, I wouldn't dream of trying to use such a system as my daily driver. To slow, especially without the accelerated graphics and quite a few limitation compared to AmigaOS4 with the Enhancer pack. There are several of the programs I mentioned above that just won't work very well on a WinUAE system.
Still, it can be a fun way to learn some of what AmigaOS4 has to offer and be interesting to explore and play. Don't let me discourage you from trying.

I have a version of Linux also installed on my X1000 that I can boot into if desired. It was a bit painful to setup and I still can't install any programs that don't already come with the package. I also find it pretty slow because I have a HD graphics card which isn't supported. If they ever get a Kernel that supports the HD graphics cards I would be putting more effort into trying to make it usable. The Amiga Linux guys have done a good job of putting a couple of packages together and will provide great support though.

Thanks, I used FlowerPot for this machine. I have a laptop with Fedora 30 that will get qemu and Sam440 AOS4.1

Does OWB have a download progress indicator?

No graphics acceleration is a bummer.

OWB does not have a download indicator. Use Odyssey from OS4Depot instead.
