Bible App demand?

I am debating writing a Bible reader app for the eSword file format for all Hollywood compatible platforms. The subject came up during a MorgueSoft news item. Please post if you want such an app.

I know that Android already has one so I'll concentrate on the desktop applet format. XML parser and RapaGui should be the only plug-ins needed.

I don't know what format Logos ebooks are in. Proprietary?? But I have a lot of books in Logos format. Even if I could only use the English language books it would be nice. Where can I find a list of books in eSword format?

I've kind of stepped back from Amiga while I await availability of a new X5000/40. But I'll be spending on Amiga again when I can set up a new one. The XE is just getting a little too flaky lately.

Not, because the muslims also they want a Coran version. And the Satan's church too.

Yeah Bibles! I prefer the real book though so I can use the pages for tissue paper after having a good poo or knocking one out.

@Paul

The eSword Bible formatted documents typically are the freebies. Look at http://crosswire.org , http://ibt.org.ru and http://xiphos.org for free downloads.

Edit:

Looking at the SWORD project library, it appears to use 3 different formats only 2 of which are XML. The third one won't work with the XMLParser plugin for Hollywood.

Why not, after all the Bible is said to be on of the most read books in the world.
I never read the Bible myself, but it is a book I wish I had the patience to read, along with the Coran, just to know what it is all about. Often many seem to have an opinion about these books, even without having read a single page.

You can count me as a positive request. I don't know if I would use it much, but I've written a couple HTML/Javascript Bibles over the years for different organizations, so I'm interested.

Well, I can give you a serious answer.

If it is not just a "reader", but a program that lets you study the bible in its various translations and variants, including the gnostic gospels and other associated apocryphal texts, as well as the torah and the quaran that share a lot with the old testament... then I might be interest. There is much to learn from comparing the texts from different times and languages, and see how they have evolved over time.

@thread

That's more like it. Feature-wise it will start as a reader for the XML format used by And Bible for Android and download documents from the same 3 websites listed in my second post.

Since the 3 mainstream OS selections have several apps available (eg. BibleTime for Qt) I'll switch the GUI plugin from RapaGUI to MUI Royale to remove the graphics card requirement for 68k using GUIGfx and Render libraries.

Later, I'll implement indexing like a concordence with keyword search. Parallel version reading is possible also.

I hope this sounds good.

That's The way way to do it. If selling an Amiga we have soft porn and a bible to advertise.

No need for net anymore or printing then.

Seriously This was a Joke again. I respect all and am a bit religious too but not too much.

Wars come often by these "too much" -persons. So a neutral+

Religion opinion individual here and don't make too fuzz as someone desde Espana..

Even the Iron Maiden drummer found God.

A hard place, the net to ask as all over the world international;)

We believe in Amiga, Jay Miner and Lemmy is God. Not..

@Samurai_Crow

Would the app be just at this point a desktop app for Amiga platforms? I ask as although Android does have bible apps they all tend to crash which I find offensive.

I may be using the free versions but if they can't write a stable app for free how will they write a bigger app for money thart doesn't crash? I've submitted bugs on other software and the developer called me back so I find ignorance of an obvious crash to be unacceptable.

Apart from that will your reader work offline? Too much dependence on the net and data these days. :-

@Hypex

The only function that won't work offline is the download function. That will require internet access. For Android, try the "And Bible" app. Mine will be similar to that and it also runs offline with the option to generate a concordance from the text without using internet access.

Count me as another person interested in this App, especially if it has some additional functionality to allow me to make notes or journal while reading.
