@AmigaBlitter

Reunion literally means to make multiple things as one again. This is something the current players have never been, so we can't use the prefix "re".

To unify the separate parties I suggest Yalta for the location of this historical meet. It's fitting as Hyperion's leader is kind of a Stalin, MorphOS is Churchill, and Cloanto is Roosevelt.

As far as using positive language for Rose's statement, here I'll give it a try.

Quote:
"We have OS with 90's feature set, hardware with mid 00's performance for todays high end prices. Our userbase is in low hundreds and we have over dozen active developers!"

We have left behind the computing paradigms of the '80s, we've streamlined all process execution into a single energy saving Power ISA core without needing SMT, we use niche hardware for a niche market at niche prices which are less than the Mac Pro pricing some are paying, and our SDK and ABI are only known by the most elite of developers who, all the smart computer users agree, require years to hone and perfect that which those stupid developers on other platforms rush out in mere months.

Now how much would you invest?

Future is Amiga NG of course.
Original graphics is too slow ever for a hobby, AROS x86 is crap compared to win/osx/lnx.
What left is something with faster graphics than original and still compatible with old 68k software which mean Amiga NG.

Graphics is irrelevant when everything else sucks.

In fact if there's a lesson to learn from the resurgence of pixel art, indie games, flat design, the death of skeuomorphic design and shadows and 3d effects in UIs everywhere,

is that graphics are entirely irrelevant when everything else works. As I was saying in another thread, graphics like the UI of Workbench 3.1 or even good old 1.3 are "new again".

Give me a Workbench 3.1 that looks and behaves exactly as it did 30 years ago but connects to WiFi easily, supports USB and plugNplay, modern HDDs and memory sizes and so forth, and that's the future for the Amiga platform for me.

Hence GO AROS!!!!!!!VVVVVVOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

not exactly flat design, even if i like it. but i have down scaled the icon set im trying to put together to 48x48px in 4 colors iff (2 bitplanes) and im still hesitant if this is simple enough.

btw. this is the size or regular ks3.9 icons it seems and yet its slightly smaller than aros or os4 ones and what i have previously taken for reference. one needs to consider that current displays and also abilities of newer hardware ,such as vamp, allow for higher resolutions. the problem is to scale well with these ranges.

Why are you constantly repeating Aros x86 crap

ALL Amiga NG options are "crap" compared to win/osx/linux, on whatever CPU they run

Aros main activity is 68k branch now

Looking at this, I get the feeling that all of those icons lend themselves to vectorization. Which means they could be represented at any given resolution.

Now, if only we could get SVG icons rather than animated desktop backgrounds, eh?

i think scalable svg icons could actually be an interesting experiment. but i fear, the overhead rendering those might be too high on lower end 68k systems. we are trying to cut down the resource demands right now, not introduce further load.

Max transfer to chip ram not changed since Amiga 3000 release almost thirty years ago.
It is 6.9 MB/s as it was in 1990. It is not enough even for 640x480 256 colors 25 fps.
Too slow even for a hobby.
Today original graphics should be in museum.

AROS x86 is not binary compatible with old 68k Amiga software so it should have memory protection, unix compatybility, commercial quality drivers and should be good enough to justify resignation from Windows.

Original graphics is too slow, AROS x86 is worthless crap worse than uae.
So what left? Amiga NG. Amiga NG is future.

For that it would need people to be intrested about it.
Maybe another 15 years and it's active userbase will reach 20% of classic.

Hm, right. Well, I tried upscaling that picture 6x with Topaz Gigapixel (Neural upscaler) and it looks gorgeous. So, bitmaps should do. Although, if we're talking of lower end systems then memory is a problem as well I suppose.

Anyway, I thought we were talking of Vampire only since you mentioned extended graphic capabilities and UIs catering to higher resolutions not previously accessible.

Personally I am not interested in "lower end 68k systems", by which you probably mean classic Amigas. On the other hand, I like this idea of a Amiga NOG, New Old Generation, superfast 68k.

Why not? Just like we get faster and faster X86, and yet today you can still run a program written for an 8086 on a third generation Threadripper.

It does not matter. classic is too slow and outdated.

It doesn't matter. NG hardware is slower than dumpster dived HW. And OS is still stuck on 90's.

Amiga has CG-Fonts and it can support TT-Fonts, there is a simple trick with rendering these, you only do it if you need them and keep the result somewhere in a cache.

The idea sound interesting ...

Commodore bankrupt because for the price of Amiga 1200 customer can buy 386SX with graphics faster than Amiga 4000.
After almost thirty years classic graphics is still slower than graphics on cheap 386 SX from Windows 3.1 era.
Classic graphics is as ancient as punching cards.
Buy faster graphics at least on Win 3.1 level.
