Hi guys,

It looks like quite a few people have problems finding compatible graphics cards for our AmigaOS 4 setups, myself included. Already made a bad purchase myself, and recently I read that the same happened to Dirkzwager.

There are a lot of threads on various forums where people discuss which graphics card fits which machine. Some work on X1000 and X5000, but not on Sam460 and so forth.

Therefore, wouldn't it be great if we had an updated list of what works or not with the various configurations?

I'm going to make a page on my blog dedicated to this, listing working setups. But to be able to do this, I do need some input from users out there.

If you want to help, I'd be very grateful if you could post what kind of AmigaOS 4 setup(s) you have and what graphics card you use.

Hopefully this will make it easier for people to find a compatible graphics card for their computer.

Thanks in advance.

@AmigaOldskooler

Too bad your site doesn't work with Odyssey on AmigaOS 4.1 (a pity for an OS 4 dedicated website).

BTW, I too made a listing of supported graphic cards somes months agos (in French, sorry) : https://amiga-ng.org/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=65

Oh man, that's not good. I'm just using a free Wordpress site. Do you know if there is a way to make it more compatible?

It works with newest version of Netsurf though. Tested it here.

Thanks for the link, will have a look.

@K-L

PS: I see you have listed Radeon HD R7 240/240D as working on Sam460ex, but it does not work for me and I have seen others having problems with it too on Sam460. Have you managed (or others you know) to get it working? If yes, then I'm very interested, since I have one gathering dust here.

@AmigaOldskooler

It may be the theme you selected. Here is one site made by a friend in WP and it displays nicely in Odyssey, so it's not WP fault :-p

@AmigaOldskooler

Sam 460cr with radeon 77OO. Works perfectly.

Sam 460cr with the radeon r5 230 and 2gig does not work with HDMI but with the VGA BUT ....some 3d games do NOT work. Then the game or sometimes the computer freezes

Your site works also with Odyssey if you switch off Javascript from prefs! I input my info using Odyssey...

@AmigaOldskooler

It would be a good idea to to encourage people to add the make and model of compatible cards and where possible the SKU.

System here is an X1000 with an MSI R9 280 GAMING 3G.

Acube used to sell the Club3D D5 X R7 250 LP.

@AmigaOldskooler

I know you are more interested in newer systems, but here are my specs:

MicroA1 - AmigaOS 4.1 FE Update 1 - onboard ATI Radeon 7000 - driver supplied with OS4.

MicroA1 has an ATI Radeon 7000 AGP graphics controller on board with VGA, S-Video and composite output with 32MB of non-shared memory.

@redfox

Hi and thanks for the info. Best if both newer and older systems are represented I think.

@AmigaOldskooler

I think it would make sense to list the cards in some kind of table. It would also make sense to separate cards that are natively supported by OS4 from cards that are supported by third party solutions like from "AeonKit". And also what aspects of the cards, i.e. what "technologies" are supported by those respective driver providers. For example, Radeon 9800 pro, what kind of support is offered by OS4 (none, display only, 2d acceleration, 3d acceleration, overlay, etc). Video decoding, dual (or multiple) display, compositing, true DVI, HDMI, what kind of 3D techs, etc, etc, etc. Keep up the research!

Thanks for the suggestions! Many good points there. I will try to expand and make it more user-friendly in the coming weeks.

Only the Polaris based cards are not supported by at least a lite version of a driver included on the AmigaOS4.1FE CD.

A limited "lite" driver as well, with some cards not supported? What limitations? Bundling of this third party SW starting with what version of OS4? Sounds like a lot of food for a hungry list-composer to dive into.

Also the on-chip display of the Sam boards. Max resolution, any acceleration, support added in what version, etc.

Please do!

A list like that is something I have missed for 1.5 decades. Trying to understand the GFX support of OS4 (and related bundled (or sold separately) third party drivers) has always been a challenge. I'm sure many would appreciate an effort in collecting this kind of info in one easy to view place. Would be interesting for historians as well!

Also, Wordpress supports more than just blog-style posts. Info like this could perhaps (at least after a while) benefit from being published in a more normal website-style fashion. Or a Wiki. Merely a suggestion.
