It's only one developer if you disregard the hundreds of people that wrote the actual browser and %99 of the dependencies.
Kudos to the people that bought this code that hundreds of other people wrote to MOS, but it's not even remotely close to "brand new, written from scratch".
A person has to expect these sorts of thing from some MOS users though. They sure do like to pat themselves on the back unnecessarily. I'd probably use MOS more if it wasnt for portions the userbase.... theyre MOS's worst enemy a lot of the time. There's an Apple-fan like mentality to them. Which is hilarious for such a simple, obsolete system.... delusions of grandeur, but with zero reasons. |

I found your selective quoting to be more creative, frankly.
amigadave literally started off his post by referencing that the web browser is based on Webkit/WebCore: "Because this new browser is based on a recent 2020 version of WebCore"
What amigadave was referring to was the fact that earlier attempts to built web browsers on top of Webkit were based on other existing web browser implementations.
Sputnik was based on Nokia's "Web Browser for S60", which was the default web browser on Symbian, whereas Odyssey started off as a port of the Oryigin Web Browser that too offered many core functionalities required for building a complete web browser on top of a web browser engine. (Car engine vs. complete car, etc.)
In contrast, Wayfarer is not based on any other "web browsers" .

It's thousands of people, actually.

Some people will use anything to reenforce their own stereotypes, I guess. |

No-one (anywhere) has tried to hide the fact that Webkit is being used as the foundation for the Wayfarer browser. Rather the opposite actualy, it's beeing highlighted as a key feature! But Webkit is not a browser, and it certainly isn't just a matter of "compiling Webkit" to have a browser on an Amiga platform. The actual browser "Wayfarer" IS actually written from scratch! Quote:

But come on, some praise and appreciation is definitely deserved here! The effort and needed knowledge in order to pull a thing like this off is nothing short of monumental. Learning and adopting Webkit itself, developing the necessary tools in the SDK, developing and modifying core OS components, and then developing the actual browser... If this would have been an accomplishment as simple and ridiculous as you try to put it here in your belittleling wording, then we would have had hoards of modern browsers lying around everywhere for years, wouldn't we? Your entire post is just so terribly sad...

And now 1.4 is out
* Fixed an issue where adding a link to bookmarks via menu would try to insert it to a wrong tree node in a Bookmarks tab * Rolled back some compilation setting tweaks since they were causing issues on some G4 cpus

No possible. You want Wayfarer, use MorphOS.
Since optimisations tweaks cause troubles on G4, G5 users should stay with 1.3 with optimisations, shouldn't they ? _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

So let me guess this right, we have threads of adulation, pomposity and self congratulations all for a web browser that in 2020 still can't play videos....
And they wonder why user active user numbers for these niche systems are still stuck in the low hundreds... _________________ Amigaone X5000/20 4GB Radeon RX 550 Polaris 12 AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition Update 1 Amiga 1200 Workbench 3.1.4 Amiga CD32 |

| Thankfully, MorphOS users can continue to use Odyssey v1.26 to use video platforms such as YouTube until Wayfarer supports them. |

Good luck finding more subscribers to pop up the cottage industry at EUR79 a pop. From the quick look around for the first time in months it's no surprise to see so little going on around these parts, most people myself included are quite bored with the lack of actual development.
Anyone with any spare cash to spend would be better off investing in a Chromebook like the one am tapping away on, they appear to have got rather interesting since they supported things like Xbox Game Pass and sideloading Linux and Android apps. They have up to date browsers that are far more purposeful and powerful than being able to stream You Tube videos...

Also my thoughts. This man who brought us this browser did a really great job :) Amiga programmer of the year 2020 ?
Besides that, Chromebooks and gaming, there are far better options! Last edited by bennymee on 20-Oct-2020 at 09:45 AM.
