I can see how someone would want to put a Pi, a minimig, or any other emulation board into a real case.
But why the A500. It already comes with its own.

Why use a pi when an Amiga case easily can fit several much faster amd64 systems that you can get cheap? |
As cheap as a pi? But I have considered it, m6 pcs look ideal but pi system gets a lot of targeted support by the retro / emulation scene and people make full special builds img / os systems you can download plug in and they just work, you don’t get that level of support for a generic pc. As it not just Amiga I would like on the system I would like the ultimate retro machine that does every system up to the 2000.
If a pi5 doesn’t appear by mid next year I likely will do it with a Pc. Still also waiting on a good easy Amiga like keyboard solution, which is looking more and more likely to be sorted out by either a a500 maxi, a1200.net, checkmate._________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

Is anyone enjoying using THE A500 Mini or are we just hacking the machine to make it look/work more like a Classic 'Miggy etc?
Having had my saved games wiped twice through corruption of the 'Floppy Stack' usb stick, I've made very little progress with the games themselves (though I did get back upto Level 16 on Worthy before the latest corruption). Obviously getting the keys mapped and screen to fill the TV correctly takes some time as does transferring the files and getting used to hacking ADF files to work, configuring AMINiMiga OS3.9 and working out how to get 2-player games working on Workbench etc.
But has anyone actually got anywhere with games they otherwise wouldn't have played? Last edited by BigD on 27-Apr-2022 at 12:03 PM.

A stick with the RetroGames Ltd. trademarked name on it (as well as the stylized Amiga "A"), conveys a seriously bad message regarding distribution.

There was a big jump in performance going from the Pi3 (Cortex-A53) to the Pi4 (Cortex-A72), but that kind of performance increase might not happen going to the Pi5. It might end up being the same SoC running at a higher clock speed. Last edited by bison on 28-Apr-2022 at 08:28 PM.

All I can say for dead certain is that RetroGames Ltd. made emphatic points about everything they released being licensed, etc. (I'm sure you recall what they said about WHDLoad as well).
So, if I'm a consumer looking at this (with obviously no knowledge of the above), I'm going to see the stick as being released by the company or with permission to use the trademarked name, which obviously is not the case. Nuff said.

Woah now. There are quite a few steps before suing. A cease and desist letter would be a good start._________________ All the way, with 68k |

I'm just using it to play games and enjoying it for what it is. :) I've played a bit of WormsDC, Lotus 2, Moonstone and erm...some poker games (which are a lot less frustrating with save states). I have plenty of games lined up that I want to play later, including D/Generation, Utopia and Alien Breed 2 SE. |

Nice! I've been enjoying it a lot more now that I know I need to back up with a PC rather than my Mac which can't see the save state folder. Knowing if I corrupt the USB I don't lose the ADF hack settings allows me to just enjoy them. Wings is running at a good speed after adding the 'cpu_speed=real' to the config and it is pick up and play fun. The New Zealand Story is great (needed to run the ADF version to avoid issues) and it's like playing it anew! I had a dodgy cracked copy for the Atari ST when I was a kid that had a necessary warp portal to avoid the 2nd world in order to avoid copy protection or something! Spoilt the flow a bit back then!
I've been enjoying Antheads the 'It came from the Desert 2' Data Disk but it does suffer a bit from graphical glitching even after tweaking the blitter/copper settings. Still enjoyable though. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Heh. Etsy (from above about the usb stick)...

Let's see what the facts are about making things special...

Etsy executed 33,920 takedown notices in 2019 against 470,533 listings across 96,876 sellers. 13,906 shops were closed in 2019 for “repeat infringement”. |

So roughly 1/3 of their sellers receive take down notices?
Indeed. That is very very "special". Wonder if more recent reports show it trending further downhill?
I asked a stupid question, obviously...

We received nearly 4 million flags regarding potentially noncompliant listings, a 400% increase in flags from 2019; breaches of our Handmade Policy and our Intellectual Property Policy were among the most commonly flagged violations. |

Oh yeah, Wings and both It Came From the Desert games are on my to-play list as well. Wings especially is one of my favorite Amiga games of all time. I think the atmosphere and the way everything was tied together by the journal entries helped make it more than the sum of its parts...and the individual parts were pretty good already.
If I were to point out any obvious omissions in the default lineup of games for the A500 Mini, it would be the absence of anything from Cinemaware. |

The rights are a mess though aren't they and the parent company Starbreeze are in a spot of restructuring bother! 2018 loss 1,336.352 million kr. Better to give them a miss!Last edited by BigD on 29-Apr-2022 at 10:34 PM.

Yep, that's the nature of open marketplaces: It's too much effort to actively police. The best thing to do is to just pass on the IP/copyright holder's take-down notice to the infringing party.
Repeating offenders in breach of the marketplace Terms of Service are shut down, only to open an account under another name days later.
I don't mean this in any cynical way because most marketplaces are the same, but at the end of the day Etsy doesn't really care what we are all selling and buying, as long as it keeps happening on their platform and they can have their cut, by doing the absolute minimum to not be criminally liable.

Q: Is there any way to connect to the Internet with The A500 Mini?
