NG Amiga user questionnaire

Hello,

I've composed a poll for all next generation Amiga users to find out what you use your Amiga for or what you'd like to use it for.

The purpose of the poll is not only to find out what an average Amiga user does with his/her Amiga but also find out which applications are the most wanted ones.

The poll can be found from here: NG Amiga user questionnaire

I hope that as many of you as possible find time to participate in the poll. Thank you in advance!

EDIT: See how people have answered so far

@jap

hi, thanks for making the survey. One recommendation I would make is to separate ‘what a current user normally does with his/her NG machine’ and ‘what one hopes to do with it in the future if made available’

@klx300r

I agree, but makes sense, if some one likes to writing program, you know what its used for, and what people like to use It for. What its currently being used for is maybe not so important.

But I agree, if he wont to sell new software, its better it solves problem thats not yet solved.

On that subject, recently AmiDVD got broken, maybe a backup tool might be useful.

Done.

I agree with klx300r. It would be nice to be able to separate what we do now from what we would like to add.

For example, right now, I regularly use the following:
- Notepad for writing my diary, logs and ARexx programs.
- Final Writer 97 and a script to convert documents to pdf.
- NetPrinter to print via our router to our shared printer.
- IBrowse 2.5.3 to surf Amigaworld and some other websites.
- Odyssey or Netsurf to surf Amiga.org and many other websites.
- Ignition, a modern spreadsheet program.
- AmigaAMP for listening to music.
- PPaint, TVPaint, Brilliance and Appetizer Paint.
- E-UAE to emulate AmigaOS 3.1 and AmigaOS 3.2

I would like to do more with photos, watching videos and accessing websites that currently require my android notepad, IPad or laptop.

It would also be nice to be able to attend zoom meetings or watch twitch video feeds.

Done. But I agree with the comments above: using something and wanting to use something are two very different things!

Appetizer Paint.

I can't believe it runs on OS4 Appetizer was my first productivity suite, which I got bundled with my A500 back in 1990

@klx300r, NutsAboutAmiga, redfox, Trixie

I did consider making two separate surveys but I ended up joining them because it's a fairly long questionnaire and I doubt if people are interested in answering two long surveys.

The current results show that most of the NG Amiga users are coders that like to play games and surf the net. So the most sorely needed applications are modern browsers, commercial level games, and up-to-date development tools.

I'm surprised how many coders there are. I'm also surprised that so many people like to do image processing with Amiga, use desktop publishing, business applications, spreadsheet, and calendar.

Well some of us may be coders like me: recreational programming in AMOS basic.

@pavlor

Main use of the NG Amiga is fun! It’s fun to go back and use a computer I grew up with and it able to do more modern things, plus all my classic apps are there.

On my x1000 I likely spent the most time on either Hollywood designer or scummvm playing some classic adventure games and then just the general day to day computer stuff (net, music, messaging etc). I love the fact I can do this stuff on an Amiga, do I wish things where better, yes, but this is the best we got.

Largely due to the browser getting more and more out of date I have started finding more of my Amiga fix I must admit on my pi400 or Pc with Amikit Xe, which also runs Hollywood designer really well on the pc, really hope they can fix a Jit error on the pi400 that effects some Hollywood apps but I can have access to my classic apps and thanks to rabbit hole quickly access host modern apps for when I need them it great.

I image there is few, but not everyone has time, that’s main problem I think.

Does this survey even work on an NG Amiga? I tried from Odyssey on my X1000, but could not get any questions to load. I guess there's a place we can start for improvements right there.

From the accounts I have read, that seems to be the the most advanced of the browsers available on an NG platform. As an OS4 user, I am jealous, sir.

I agree.
I didn't bother filling in the survey since the data collected wasn't going to be useful.
I use my MorphOS machines for very little, but I would like to use them or potentially other Amiga NG machines for much much more, were they able to accomplish it.
