Switching the emulator to Emu68 causes a 12x bump in performance.

What happens with virtual scsi, RTG, networking and other cool stuff if Emu68 is used?

Since Emu68 is only a CPU JIT engine, it definitely lacks all goodies from regular PiStorm firmware. However, since it also provides easy access to entire RasPi peripherals and provides ways to go through the device tree, one can write drivers for all hardware necessary.

Right now I am working on sdcard.device which will allow accessing the microSD inserted in raspberry. I somehow need to have a hard drive here...

I have a “vision” that one day, we can buy relatively cheap Amiga motherboards with FPGA that holds Minimig AGA chipset, and a socket for a pi compute module running Emu68k - like a merge of MiST and PiStorm - all parts exists, only not together. :)

I have a vision of running AROS-MP natively on the RPi 4x and running classic software within that...

Now I have pre-initial version of RTG driver for Picasso96. Have a look at A500 with Emu68 playing this nice video. Screen resolution: 1280x720, colour depth: 32bpp

@michalsc

nice ;)

I hope you will also support that Aros 68k runs on it. Then perhaps my own distribution could run on it. You could then write what to do. I would be interested there too. Currently I am preparing a new version for UAE. Then I will work on a version for V2/V4.

A little this now looks like the V2 and V4 cards in amigas more or less taking over everything except keyboard and some interfaces like serial, just with RPi instead of a card with FPGA

That shouldn't be really an issue. I just need to add the option to map 1MB rom and AROS should start OOTB.

Emu68 is 40 times faster than A4000 so it is similar to PPC with 600mhz clock but video shows mpeg which can be played with ~200mhz PowerUP card for Amiga. Could you check some xvid/divx with FroggerNG?

@OlafS25,

It could never happen but, what if you had a Vampire with an Pi dongle? A Vampire may reach speeds enough to run something like Chrome but who can port it? If you could connect both and have a "Rabbit Hole" function would be nice. Imagine putting a Chrome shortcut on the Amidock....

@QuikSanz

Wayfarer on MorphOS is usable >1.5GHz and >1GB ram so ~130Mhz Vampire2 can't have such application.

@rzookol,

Exactly, run it on Pi and rabbit to Amiga!

@QuikSanz

it is not the concept of V4. V4 is a next generation 68k platform with all parts integrated so I do not think that would be possible and even if Gunnar certainly would not be interested to drop his new 68k processor done in FPGA.

And you said it... besides hardware who will do it. Modern browser are constantly evolving, porting it one time is a big project and not enough. And you need to constantly update it.

What about PPC emulation on the pi, i sure i found it somewhere that qemu on pi4 can do roughly a G3 200mhz kind of emulation. So could some not make the pistorm be a cheap PPC option and get os4 on an A500 woukd be pretty fun to see.

Somewhat a whim but was thinking of Linux on Pi in somewhat parallel to a Vampire, Fast 68K and OK modern solution that can open a screen from the Pi side on the Amiga desktop. Maybe even put a shortcut on Amiga.
Switching maybe not that hard, picture in picture on an Amiga 68K screen as well as being able to interact with it is a different story. I know no programing. but I think impossible.

Chris

PS: Probably the closest multicore we could get without trashing everything.
