You missed out UAE. If all you want to do is play games, it's the least expensive and most compatible option there is for anyone that already has a computer to run it on.

@Karlos

That’s true

But then it no place for the pancakes option, I fear that result in lots of complaints.

"A real Amiga / AmigaONE"

It takes a True Amigan™ to bundle best and worst option.

@NutsAboutAmiga

For me the best way to get into and rekindle the passion is emulation

@Rose

AmigaONE is not a bad option, it accesses to real hardware using native drivers.

You actually connect stuff to real hardware.
You run WarpOS software and AmigaOS 680x0 software.
its good at 3D, it good at 2D graphics,
its good at video playback.
and its fast.

The draw back for Amiga and AmigaONE hardware is that hardware can be expensive.
if getting a used Amiga from ebay or buy AmigaONE/Sam460's in limited production runs.

Well, I use Pegasos 2 quite often to play old games. OS4 enviroment serves as an ideal Amiga-like game launcher.

@pavlor

For me personally the best way is WinUAE, that emulator is just nuts how good / accurate it can be. Its kinda what kept me being an Amiga fan in the 00's years.

second Id have to say Pi, because it cheap and fairly easy to setup, a Pi Zero 2 can run all the base Amiga stuff and cost you £20 or less with a case and their a lot of support and help out their if you go the Pi route. Pi400+Amikit XE / Pimiga is obviously the best option.

if your rich and dont want the hassle and easy setup that looks nice, then I guess my third choice would be the A500 mini I got one for my bother which he now has, i will likely pick one up but not until it under £80, and if it drops to £60 or more than I suppose this would move up to my second choice for users. specially now its already getting hacks to run HDF.

Fourth option would be go real Amiga. but I think emulation has spoiled me.

@NutsAboutAmiga

I assume "The A500" refers to 'The A500 Mini'. It definitely is the easiest way for newbies to get into the game catalogue so that gets my vote.

@BigD

I think it bit early have this poll, I think appoints might change topic, once more people have product in their hands. And try things out.

I also think it might unfair, in the sense we have teste etch and everyone option and made score system, because system might better something then other things.

So far chocked at few votes for the Mister, also the MiniMig seen some new designs, that has not talked about on this site.

The Mister I have seen is upgradable, and it you run lot video games from other systems as well, there seams be no restrictions on ADF, HDF’s

Product support current and future should be taken into account here, regardless of one's allegiance.

I agree with @Karlos, @1Mouse and @amigang -- emulation. It's cheap and effective.

Emulation. It's cheap and cost effective for a quick to market toy but the worst quality simulation and the lowest efficiency by most measures. The poll asks for "best" and much of this emulation can't match the original hardware. WinUAE on a 3-4GHz CISC processor with gigabytes of memory can do a pretty good job with enough overkill but that is hardly as efficient as the 68k which often outperformed the x86 while using less power. ARM emulating the 68k is more of a disgrace and struggles to match 68060 performance from 1994. The Amiga chipset is more difficult to emulate and heavy or unusual use can cause problems for emulation. Emulation is capitulation.

@matthey

The way I see it the ONLY thing that The A500 Mini emulation lacks is 2-player mouse action in Lemmings and The Settlers. It still seems impossible to replicate this on modern systems! Crazy!

Yes, there's some graphical glitching and some incompatibility but for 99% of gaming uses emulation seems a 'better' way for newbies to get into the Amiga.

Several Minimig based systems support 2-player mouse, just saying…

Oh and, it would be the THEA500 Mini, the THE is even embossed on the chassis.

Bullocks. The worst simulations are on FPGA - cores that littered with bugs and no longer maintained or updated. Even worse if they are closed source as well, but bad enough with open source, if you need to go archeology hunting to find ancient long gone tools to build for the long EOL FPGA the core was built for. It becomes retro on a whole different level.

Really. According to who?

@NutsAboutAmiga

What system is the "best"?

If one doesn't already have a recent enough Windows/Linux/macOS PC, and is not interested in Raspberry Pi tinkering, then the "cheapest" is The A500 mini.

If one does however have a recent enough Windows/Linux/macOS PC, then UAE or Amiga Forever is the "cheapest".

If one is a bit of an Amiga elitist/snob, has the discretionary income to match, and the spare time for a very expensive hobby running a system with poor support, then a functioning OG Amiga or Amiga NG system is the one that is ... um, "most costly"?

And if one does have a bit of money, and would like to see more games developed for a system that very closely mimics the original Amiga, and extends the concepts further, a gaming choice that supports a very dedicated team and a growing number of HW options, then a Vampire Standalone V4 is the "best" option.

That is why I prefer NG+emulation route. I have all my favourite games configured that way, I can run them by double-click on their icon (via DOSBox, E-UAE, or MAME). All nicely integrated into the NG enviroment. As OS friendly 68k applications work well in OS4, I can enjoy best of both worlds (well, I can play games like Albion, or Baldurs Gate II, which wouldn't be possible on a "classic" Amiga).
