Firstly dont get me wrong, I like some entertainment discussions and I don't mind some of the weird post they add something to the strange community we have here, but I cant help but feel its getting ever so slight out of hand.

Im tired - https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=44572&forum=2

Show me your soul - https://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=44558&forum=2

None of the above really should be forum topics in my mind, I basically dont want amigaworld slipping to become a new Moobunny, so I just thought Id ask anyone else feel the same and should we try and get the forum more back on track of discussing Amiga stuff. What everyone think is the best solution?

@amigang

Do you remember the CommodoreUSA days? There were so maaaaaaaany "discussions" about this kind of topics polluting the front page. Solution? They were all moved under "Amiga Inc. offshoot" subforum and made invisible.

Current nonsense threads are quite mild in comparison.

Stop crying like a child and make the change you want the forum to be.

Regardless, the most entertaining discussions here in the last year was when hotrod forgot to take his crazy pills.

I think having something less banal to talk about would be a start. A few interesting points on different subjects have been made in some of the longer running threads.

Personally, I've not turned any of my Amigas on in a long time.
I took the hard drives out to image them a year or more ago now. It's a sad situation, really. No space to set them up properly and no time to use them even if I did. My A1 is flat dead as a dodo, nothing to do with the battery, it just died. I rarely even use my PC which is slowly getting vintage too.

This lack of the time, coupled with the fact that my only time at a computer these days is at a Linux laptop I use for work is what led me to work on MC64K. So that I could scratch the programming itch.

@Karlos

We have a book on the horizon and MetroSiege. Beyond that I can't think of anything worth speaking about. No one here seems interested in THEA500 Mini so go home, nothing to see!

Umm,... exactly how did you miss the fact the "Qbit. Trolling Us, or Just an Idoit" forum was also a check to see if there's any moderation left on the site?
It flat out says that it's the intention.

So to "fix" the problem you thought you'd repeat it, only without the tongue in check flavor of that thread?

You've just proved your point; the quality is indeed slipping.

forum

/ˈfɔːrəm/

noun

1. a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

This is Amigaworld. 'We', are Amigaworld. It's an evolving thing.

When there is enough actual Amiga hardware and software stuff to talk about, we do that. When there isn't, we talk about other stuff. So really the fact that we're talking about almost anything else other than Amiga hardware and software, says a lot more about the state of our niche than it does about the "Quality" of discussion slipping.

I didn't vote, but I just want to say that I prefer having the forum full of weird topics than having a dead forum that is strictly about Amiga stuff. However, topics that bash other users are not my cup of tea and should be moderated IMHO.

@agami

There’s lots of Amiga hardware to talk about, but people here prefer arguing about fantasies, like native packed pixel Amiga graphics, new 68k ASICs, and Amiga “RT” OS taking over the embedded market. Because the THEA500 Mini shows the way!

Oh, and unix with the Amiga experience ontop.

I suspect it’s because so many posting here don’t really have that much Amiga hardware to write about, longing for that final, ultimate, perfect system.

Who forces you to read those threads?

And, even more important, who forces you to WRITE on those threads?

@cdimauro

From what are you reading my posting as a complaint? It’s an observation, not much else. Do you suggest I am incorrect? Noone is forcing me to read or write anything, I do it from my own free will.

Or,
We've already talked about all of the "lots of Amiga hardware". What specific piece of hardware have we not already discussed?

Every now and then there is a news post about some software. We have a chat about it and then what? How much talk should there be about the latest update of AmiKit XE? Or the latest update to DVPlayer?

The alt topics is what's keeping this forum alive. If it had to wait until there was something legitimate in the Amiga hardware and software sphere to talk about, many would stop frequenting the site.

This thread about the forum quality that derailed, and you listed topics that weren't (in your opinion) Amiga (as a hardware platform) related.

So, to me this looks like complaining about them.
