Yes, AmigaOS Classic development is alive!
Yes, despite not paying any people that do the work there's new products!
Yes, there's a retro buzz thanks to them!
No better but no worse than Commodore or H&P.
No, they are stopping true open source development being possible.
No, development of both NG & 68k could be faster under Cloanto.
No, AmigaOS 4.x is dead!

@BigD

I would say The A500mini's success is due to it being available on high profile sites such as Amazon & other sites which makes it easier for people to stumble across it.

As for Amiga Forever you've got to have knowledge of the Amiga Scene to discover it. Its not available on any major software distribution retailers or digital game services such as Steam.

If Mike wants to make some money with Amiga Forever then a version of the software bundled with some good games & the capability to add more via DLC should be made available on Steam.

I would happily donate 10x of Hyperion's asking price for Amiga OS 3.2, if I were assured that 85%+ went to the developers and 0% went to Ben.

Lol, yeah, no, that is not gonna happen. 100% goes to Ben, as always. Has he ever paid ANY developers?

Hyperion is not so bad. They made nice new version of os.
It was good to Amiga community to get os from hands of ainc.
I hope that mr batalia loose and they will still made new 3.x and 4.x versions.

further progress?
everything below amiga gui and graphics should be dropped.
Hyperion stop no one.
x86/arm/riscv followers should made good open source amiga gui replacement.

Workbench 3.X Files

So to install it on a Classic Amiga you buy a copy of the 3.X roms or use 3.1 with double reboot and install from the Amiga Forever discs? That's not clear as Amiga Forever is for emulation primarily!

I haven't tried installing it on a classic Amiga, so I don't know.

@BigD

You use 3.1 roms, much the same situation of 3.9.

That's why it failed to ignite the Classic scene whereas OS3.2 DID actually try to move development forward rather than just reimplement OS3.9.

I've definitely seen 3.X roms for sale just not 3.X floppies as you have to know it's included with Amiga Forever!

@BigD

You are right. I use a set of 3.X ROM's from Cloanto in an Amiga 1200 here. Got these together with the Workbench 3.X floppies from Amigastore.eu.

ROM 3.X Amiga 1200 at Amigastore.eu

@AmigaOldskooler

So would you see OS3.2 as an upgrade from 3.X?

@Thread

Also, the way I see it the 3.X roms are intended for use with a patched version of 3.1 not really a OS3.9 replacement! Maybe the Amiga Forever package goes beyond the 3.1 floppy distribution?

You're indeed right, I guess I thought it was nothing more then a collection of utils. I thought it was just removing libraries and patching them on startup much like AFA OS do

@pixie

A missed opportunity to keep the OS3.9 bandwagon going IMHO as it wasn't well publicised. OS3.2 has stollen the limelight and even Cloanto suggested that's what users want now in the Amiga37 talk.

@BigD

There's little Cloanto can do to upgrade Amiga OS in a meaningful way since their original license would have only given them access and rights to the binaries. Since their purchase of Amiga they may now have access to the source but are they still bound by the conditions laid out in the 2009 settlement agreement.

Hyperion's interpretation of the settlement may be dubious but at least they green lit further development on 68k and were willing to publish it since they could have chosen to block further development of 68k Amiga OS forever.

In some related good news it seems the Amiga branded USB keyboard I pre-ordered back in may shall be in my hands soon, possilby even in time for Christmas depending on Royal Mail.

Thanks Simulant Systems and Cloanto/Amiga Corporation.

Acube also recently announced the new Sam460LE is ready to ship and some of the early customers should have them before the year ends.
