here you go
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipYRUQrIxY0&t=676s&ab_channel=amigang

I got to talk to the devs and guys, tried to get them to make Amibench for Pi. But for now its only going to be part of A600GS. however they did say they are thinking about bring it to Pistorm. Which would be nice.

The package for the unit really nice in person, it nice to see they put some work into this product.

I Really hope they do a A2400, base it on this

ok cost for the custom molds, keyboard, etc would be high, but i bet it would sell, if you could bring it to market at the old A1200 price of ÂŁ399.99. that be nice

its something I been thinking of making my self. But with a Pi5 inside and Amikit XE. As I really love its setup.

A interesting review of the A600GS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOU3gSKnAfY

When watching the video review, the reason that PPaint stalled was the icon was double clicked twice on the dock in AmiBench so two copies were launched together. We will fix the AmiBench dock to prevent that in future.

Awesome to see A600GS sales at recent Amiga shows, and that folks are getting review units. Do you have an estimate when 'regular' customers who ordered through the web site will be getting them?

We have started to send them out to pre-order customers. We have had a good response to the product so it will keep us busy as they will be go out over the next few weeks.

In the spirit of healthy competition; THEA500 Mini stock remains low. Get it while it's reasonably cheap! They are probably clearing out stock before the Maxi launches!

Here's a cheap one!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166235848329?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338590836&toolid=10044&customid=ea7eea9a7c501e434a508c1d58e62da2

or ÂŁ120 from Game!

https://www.game.co.uk/en/the-a500-mini-2865839

or support an Amiga retailer but out of stock at the moment!

Another sub-ÂŁ85 source for the Mini. Not sure about P&P. [Edit: It's free!]

Yep, low stock and high demand. We're heading for a ÂŁ115 new market price until the Maxi is released and they possibly do another run at a later date! Buy a sub-ÂŁ100 unit if you can!

High demand? Heh, hardly.

The stores here had them stacked in the retro gaming corner for a while, then they were removed, and now they are not available.

Anyhow… why bother? Neither A600GS nor the THEA500 Mini offer anything in particular. I can build my own A600GS for roughly half the price, and it won’t come with the 36000 lines worth lf code I have zero interest in.

I suspect if you correctly costed the time to build one using your hourly rate from your real life job, then it would cost a lot more than our retail price.

Apart from our two years development costs, of course, you are not including the price of the our case, metal work front/top/backplates, printed manuals, labels, packaging. 18 Amiga developers and contributors in our community have been paid for the project.

When a user buys an A600GS, they are having licenced commercial Amiga software that has been updated and developed in 2024.

If you build your own, you will have to use pirated/unlicenced software. So quite a flippant comment when you stop and think of the work that goes into putting together a product such as an A600GS.

There's always someone who can do it cheaper .

However, people should keep in mind that they're not just buying hardware but they buy a trouble free product that simply needs connecting to enjoy.

For all those who can do it cheaper, the A600GS and the Mini will never be a satisfying solution. To me, the A600GS looks like a nice offering, unfortunately I don't have time for it otherwise it would be a no brainer.

@Amiga_3k

Totally agree. Its good to have reasonably priced machine out there for people who want to dabble in the Amiga scene without bankrupting themselves buying under powered out dated ppc hardware.

Amiga-kit also mentioned that they're thinking of bundling game dev tools in an update which sounds good to me.

The Amiga scene has much needed a machine such as this for years. I'll probably buy one once the online aspect of it launches.

Of course! (since I’m a well paid IT consultant and system administrator.)
However, tinkering around with stuff like this qualifies as “hobby” and something I do for fun and leisure, so… no. First thing I do with items like “THE#? mini" is to "hack’n mod” them. Heck, I even bought Nintendo GameCube and a couple of Wii’s to have more Linux/PPC systems to mess around with - it sure was fun to have GameCube boot from ATA-over-Ethernet disk images. So perhaps I’m not the target customer for A600GS… but who is? Time will tell, the success is not measured in number of devices sold, but in revenue from the ecosystem. An ecosystem I personally have zero interest in supporting.

If you can build something cheaper by working for free then your comments are a mute point. Or is the purpose of your comments an attempt to portray the product as being overpriced? Even if you paid yourself minimum wage, then the price to assemble the units would be yield no profit.

Which part of “I can build my own” is so hard to understand? I have clearly laid out why I, subjectively, don’t find the A600GS - or for that matter, THEA500 Mini - at all interesting. I don’t give a damn about what others chose to do, I merely point out that the success of this product is not in the number of devices sold, but in revenue from the ecosystem you’re setting up for it. You were the ones jumping on me here, not vice versa.

It's obviously not targeted at people who want to build their own systems...

I would think for anybody interested in dabbling in the Amiga scene or anybody coming back, this would be an excellent choice. It's not like there's fully working Amiga's that are readily available at a reasonable price point, This fills that vacuum.

A full computer system fully installed with a custom Amiga compatible operating system, with installed apps for ÂŁ134, seems like a reasonable proposition to me.

At the end of the day Amiga-kit are a business, that needs to make some profit to continue to bring products to market. I wish them every success with this & I will eventually pick one up.
