And AROS, that could have made a difference to this mess, is constantly neglected by "the real Amiga Fans" ..

AROS 68K has problems running legacy Amiga software e.g. Deluxe Music 2, which runs fine on C= AmigaOS 2.x/3.x.

I use apps, not staring at the OS.

@OlafS25

There was indeed time when I did care about legacy Amiga software from the 1980s/90s. Twenty, twenty-five years ago maybe.

QUICK!!! In the name of the almighty, someone please explain to me ASAP:
Why oh why would anyone care for that handicapped, deformed combination that is "recently made applicarions / on ng amiga OS?"

The worst of both worlds.

Applications like Deluxe Music or Octamed or Deluxe Paint do not offer the best that technology can provide today, but they are simple, linear, familiar, originally built professionally.

"NG" apps are still light years behind the most basic software on Windows or MacOS, while being unfamiliar, maintained by amateurs,

You want MODERN? LEAVE THE AMIGA BEHIND AT ONCE, FIRE UP THAT PHOTOSHOP, DOUBLE CLICK ON POWERPOINT.

You want retro? You want Amiga? Stick to the legacy pillars.
Make sure they run on Aroa or else.

The very fact that a user knows what an amiga is, was, might have been, could have been, is pretty much age verification in itself

Hammer seems to be in love with this old music software so he not wants to use aros 68k where it not works as he reports. That is ok. But he uses that to downtalk aros 68k and tells people it is useless and buggy and far from OS3. That conclusion is nonsense.

Many old apps or games developed for A500 not even work on 3.1+RTG how I tested.

And yes, I do not care either about old applications from A500 time. But everybody how he likes

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

there are lots of painting software working already
Octamed works too

DPaint is a problem because it is very lowlevel operating. We will see in future. For nostalgic reasons it would be good if it works in future

Deluxe Music is from 1986. I doubt that it works on any modern environment. Hammer uses it obviously in UAE with 1.3 ROMs

Modern is 3.1 + P96 at least, I not think it runs there. That is Amiga, not all software works on newer roms. Games and Demos in most cases work with whdload, very old apps not.

And perhaps interests are different. Some want pure nostalgia, others want to have a better platform. The first group sticks to AmigaOS (1.3/2.1/3.1 or 3.2/3.9...), others are interested in Aros/MorphOS/AmigaOS 4.X and accept that not every old application works there.

@OlafS25

TVPaint has similar UI as DPaint (I think even some keyboard shortcuts are the same), but of course its workflow is not the same. DPaint is ideal for moving parts of a palette and similar uses. For anything else in 256 colours, PPaint is probably a better choice (and has much better palette recolor for brushes).

As of stupid laws in some regions, EULA could simply state the OS can't be used, where it is illegal (maybe this is already there...).

@pavlor

There are lots of Bitmap orientated Paint Programs on Amiga, like TVPaint, XiPaint, PPaint to only name 3. But yes, when someone is DPaint expert he wants to have it on a platform or not using it. And DPaint is also something for nostalgy, one symbol for Amiga.

@billt

Isn't that it's strong and weak point at the same time ? I get it that compiling stuff is a waste of resources but the options are many (and probably the bugs...). I think they moved to allow binaries too at this point.
Which distro are you using ?

DPaint’s "force" over the others is in animation.

All "troublesome" software that can at least be launched from WHDLoad with a "real amigaos" environment.

Like many retro Amiga users, I didn't give a damn about AROS.

Wrong. Deluxe Music 2.0 was released in 1993, not 1986.

Similar problem for 1994 releases, such as Music X 2.0 and Notator-X 1.2.

I used AROS Vision 68K's ROM and compared the results to C= KickStart 3.1 (A1200, rev 40.68) reference.

Deluxe Music 2.0 works fine (loads program, plays music) on Hyperion's AmigaOS 3.2 (2021, Kickstart 47.96, Workbench 47.2).

Octamed Sound Studio doesn't replace Deluxe Music 2.0's notation DTP feature i.e. different market.

I can reuse Deluxe Music 2.0 on Amiga Forever 11 (via Amiga 4000 Enhanced 3.X profile)'s virtual print function on modern printers and PDF print drivers.

I have Yamaha MU2000 (MIDI to serial) connected to PiStorm'd A1200.

Deluxe Music 2.0 works fine on PiStorm'd A1200 with AmigaOS 3.9 and P96 RTG.

If modern software is used, something like MuseScore Studio 4.x (open source notation DTP software) would be the Deluxe Music 2.0 or Music X 2.0's Notation-X counterparts. Humans read notation on modern tablets or old-school paper.

More info from
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorewriter
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_scorewriters

OctaMed Sound Studio is in a different software category.

So what’s preventing Deluxe Music from working? Is it tied to Paula?
What exactly have you tried?

I know, I've seen quite a bipolar disorder like this spreading in Amigaland... Aros is a clean amigos reimplementarion, and people vouch for Amiga os and then disdains for aros. It make no sense, it's like they're on it for the name only...

@kolla

I first not understood what he really does with nonsense like "Aros Vision Roms", never heared of that. There are also no "amigaforever roms", "amikit roms" or "betterwb roms". But from context it seems he uses the included aros roms to boot his music software from adf. Then with aros roms "workbook" is started, a cut down and vastly not tested minimalistic desktop. But saying aros vision is useless because aros roms not perfectly work with this old software is like booting with 3.1 roms and if it not works saying shit and useless amigaos or amikit.
