Isn't that a bit similar to what Hyperion recently stated?

That may change soon, a minimig with full 030 inc MMU core is already booting AmigaOS to Workbench and a 68881/882 core is also in the works. There’s also a bit of fresh blood emerging in the FPGA scene which is encouraging.

Yes, and I bet he meant _legitimate_ older AmigaOS version installed. This only means you must buy a copy of AmigaForever to use with emulator on ANY capable system first, and then the requirement is fulfilled. Anyways, this kind of limitation isn’t even legal around here, we are allowed to install whatever software we own on whatever hardware we own, and even modify the software for sake of interoperability, EULAs be damned.

Agree on the specificity of 3.2.3 vs your sense of how wording should have been.

But it seems this is also a "clue" as to current rights?

After all no settlement has been published, filed, recorded, whatever as of today that would indicate what current rights actually are.

I guess it depends on what you think "device" is. My old A1200 is definitely a device. And a Raspberry Pi (or Windows PC or whatever) running an emulated AmigaOS 3.1 is also a device.

I first started with SDL1 on Linux because I wasn't sure if any Amiga system is supporting SDL2.
I have not tried to compile something for AROS or any other AmigaNG system, but there are many SDL ports for those system.

Setting up a window, loading and displaying an image is a peace of cake in SDL, the events are needed for Inputs (Key, Mouse, ...) and if you use ChatGPT and ask for a program you will have a simple image display program in less than an hour.

So it would appear that OS3.3 will be the last 68K OS release by Hyperion?

Hopefully Amiga Cop/Inc/Org whatever they are now, do really consider continuing activities with the team who are developing OS3.3.........(although in my heart I dont think they will).

So it looks like Hyperion can still sell and develop AmigaOS3 68k machine until the end of 2027 and then that its. It will be up to Amiga Corp weather you be able to still buy it after that point.

AmigaOS4 can continue and Hyperion still owns right to it, forever... but under the license agreement only on PPC hardware. (which is effectively dead, ther no new consumer PPC chip being developed, what little chips are being made is for specialised miltarty contract/sever tech)

Just for fun I was thinking would there be away for Hyperion to continue to develop the 68K/AmigaOS? but just call it AmigaOS4.3.4? With maybe a bit of the code designed to run on PPC and say see it meant for PPC hardware, but it will run on 68k :)

Anyway I glad the legal cost are over and I just hope they get on with building great software.

That's not correct. The new settlement agreement quite specifically allows Hyperion to develop OS4 for "any CPU architecture (including the PowerPC CPU), but excluding the 68K".

Hyperion Entertainment's rights in that field are transitional and limited to 
AmigaOS 3.2 and AmigaOS 3.3 as upgrades for existing licensed systems.

Distribution of those products will end no later than December 31, 2027. 


Hyperion Entertainment will deliver to Amiga the source code, revision history, 
and documentation for AmigaOS 3.1.4, including all fixes and updates, ... ,
