Hey all,

As some already know, I'm doing a port of wxWidgets to AmigaOS. It's the first and maybe only time I port wx to a new platform, so I thought I might share the experience as I go:

http://portingwx.blogspot.com

In order to make this appealing also to non-programmers, I will use the opportunity to write a little about how to approach difficult challenges in general. As applied to this project obviously, though some of the juicier technical details may be better communicated in other forums (perhaps here). It's a single person project at the moment, though I will build on the technical base of some previous porting efforts.

Either way, first blog episode is out now. Hope you enjoy it!

@andst

I dont have much knowledge about it (no coder) but it seems many good apps uses (dependencies) this so we need wcWidgets on amiga. If you manage it its a plus for us amigans :)

Nice blog !

EDIT: If i remember right AudioEvolution on pc/mac uses vwWidgets.

@mr2

Thank you :)

I've been in contact with the people behind the bounty. The description is a little bit dated, but essentially we want to achieve the same thing. I've also been in contact with abalaban, who has been very helpful in getting me started.

Thanks for the tip though. I have some Amiga history but have been away from the community for a while. Hints and tips will certainly be helpful.

@Kicko

Yes, there are many good apps built on wxWidgets, and having wx on Amiga should give easy access to many of those. What's more, I understand apps like Audacity started out on Amiga and was ported to wx, thereby gaining a larger audience. That would be another interesting option imo, as I recall there being some pretty clever apps/devs on Amiga that could benefit from a larger audience.

Glad you guys like it!

Agreed, he is very helpful. I use his Wacom tablet driver

Good luck. Hope you will succeed :)

@Troels

Now we have only one "dead" bounty, Gnash. Any idea what to do with it...or collected money?

Great!
I hope this will also help in bringing back AudioEvolution on AmigaOS

@Nibunnoichi

Yeah, agreed. Any suggestions of wx apps that people are interested in are useful. I've started a list of such apps, and I'm adding AudioEvolution to it.

@Kicko

Nothing has been said about it for a long time now. If no one else does, then I may start poking around with figuring it out myself. (I opened the amigabounty for it, with KiCad PCB tools in mind for myself) I'm working through a master degree in engineering and haven't had time for "fun" things for a few years. I've got about a year left to finish then I can concentrate on other things again. Also looking forward to getting into other dormant projects again. I used wxWidgets for part of a big embedded systems project this past semester, which has me interested again, but I'm not sure how far I can get into this one just yet.

I remember reading, I think it was on Morphzone, that someone was working on it and I've seen other mentions of interested devs through the years. With how things are in our community there are currently various people working on it and wasting their time ...

The interest is as if we had wxwidgets maybe DaveAE could port his Audio Evolution 5 for amiga. I dont know how it is now but back then this was the requirements to port it.
