Well, the specs listed make it at least look like a 11,2 quad core 2.5 GHz PowerMac G5. But, you could be running this via something like QEMU.
The only common desktop system using a 970MP processor is the 11,2, BUT that doesn't rule out emulation.
SO, since we know what an 970MP is, why don't you just fess up and TELL US?
And...if it is emulation, why not run an eight cored (four 970MP cpu) system? After all, we now have X64 desktop cpus that run 8-16 threads, so if we're going to run multiple PPC threads, why not run as many threads as the X64 cpu can run? Very cool. And its not that I don't like to play, its just that the underlying hardware can really only be one machine, since its a four core 970MP system.
I think you may have a VERY good idea here, if you can free us from the need to spend a lot of money on expensive proprietary hardware that doesn't outperform a commonly available quad G5.
And X86 emulation is nice (X64 emulation would be nicer, but hey one step at a time). The G5 should be powerful enough to do a fairly good job of emulating the i386 ISA.
But aren't you limited to VESA video modes with something like this? Last edited by Beans on 03-Nov-2017 at 09:35 PM.

it have to run gallium with host gpu accels. like exagear do on arm. im studing how exagear work for gave really good emulation on the small arm7 cpu and i try to replicate this on ppc. ... im locked in the other projects because need a patch that will be mainstream on qemu 2.11 just doing this because i have free time :P Last edited by tlosm on 04-Nov-2017 at 08:24 AM. Little endian???? So is that possible to run Linux in Little Endian mode on a G5???? Wow, that's great! I suppose there will be much less pain in recompiling software!
Do you think would it be possible to run Little Endian Linux on the X1000, the X5000 or the A1222?

My shot show G5 running little endian linux. But it running not as native like power8/9 do but it is jit by the brt. My intention is not have Linux i386 running (because run already) but wine full run with gl accelerations. Right now i just have success to open gl windows but without content running because i have to understand how the exagear devs Made it work on raspian... I have some feelings about but need to better investigate Note i686 cpu set are redirected/emulated and not native ... Have it native is impossible because ppc not i386 _________________ I love Amiga and new hope by AmigaNG A 500 + ; CDTV; CD32; PowerMac G5 Quad 8GB,SSD,SSHD,7800gtx,Radeon R5 230 2GB; MacBook Pro Retina I7 2.3ghz; #nomorea-eoninmyhome |

Nice, do you have a source for that? And what video card are you using? _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

There are a few other things I don't get. You are using a 32 bit kernel, but the processors are listed as 970MPs, while the frequency at the top of the screen is listed as 1.25 GHz.
All that combines to confuse me. _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |

And you managed to get Wine running on a recent Linux PPC release. Pretty impressive.
I need to rebuild the coolers on my G5 quad, but I'd love to duplicate this one day.
Come to think of it, at the rate you are improving this, it should be better by the time I get around to rebuilding the quad. _________________ Amiga! "Our appeal has become more selective" |
