Hi Everyone,

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction of more documentation in regards to Saving IFF animations.

The Brilliance Manual for example says this:

Brilliance can save your animation as either an 0p-5, 0p-8 WORD, or 0p-8 LONG formatted file. Op-5 is supported by many older Amiga software packages. Unless you need compatibility with older Amiga software. we recommend that you save your animation files in one of the Op-8 formats.

I don't for example understand the difference between WORD and LONG formats (advantages/disadvantages).

Many thanks in advance.

By the way I'm working on some experimental animations using Brilliance II and Lightwave. This animation is 100 frames, 320x256, 32 colours, also documenting the process for anyone interested (will be on my Patreon site)

@invent

Based on the fact Op-5 must be what most people call IFF ANIM5, you should look for IFF ANIM8 spec.
Apparently there are specs in this archive: http://aminet.net/package/gfx/show/AnimFX
I didn't download it to check, but this appears to be the same specs file on GitHub: https://github.com/murkymark/iffanimplay/blob/master/docs/format_description_(partly_from_internet)/iff_anim/animspecs%20(from%20animfx%20archive%2C1998)/ANIM.guide

@Chris_Y

Thanks very much, always great to gather as much info as possible.

I have now finished the concept.

3D Colour Cycling - Proof of Concept - Final

By the way in another forum thread I was pointed towards this information that I thought useful to share here.

https://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/ANIM_IFF_CEL_Animations

I have exported the format IFF (Op-8) format

@Chris_Y

I always wondered if .iff files could be translated to .avi, however, in a pinch I have shot DPaint V animations right off the screen to use with Adobe Premiere or on my Macrosystems Casablanca Avio DV. Also, I never understood why DPaint V still can't interpret a .jpg file?

@ALL

I have added the source file here if anyone would like to try it on your Amiga's
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WLAkzUsYWnqiDk5F7wk4_Zkgn7lpeanj

Sadly the video doesn't do it justice. Did also try Vimeo as sometimes is a cleaner video

Although I would vote for Anim7 longword, here is a program that easily allows you to convert to 5, 7, and 8 to test speed as well as do some other conversions:

MainActor 1_55

@Doofus

I assume dpaintV suffers the same unfortunate release timing as Brilliance. .jpg was not exactly standard at the time. Lightwave suffered from this as well. A background converter like pegger solved the problem.

I'm not sure what else that performs this task is available now.

Looks great! Would love to learn more about the techniques involved. Keep it up.
