| Hello. I was wondering, how many compilers does Hollywood have? This Amiga, Windows, MacOS and Linux versions. Is there a PPC version for Linux, etc?

Add to those the Android (arm), iOS (arm, arm64) which can be compiled with stand-alone non Amiga software. |

| If you look at the website, you'll see that 64-bit ARM Android is also supported as well as x86 and x86-64 based versions of iOS are supported with APK compiler and the iOS framework sold separately.

Thanks, does that mean that there is a compiler for each cpu? Or, do I just use the right cpu argument for say a compiler for x86 linux uses the ppc argument?

I do believe that to compile for Aros would be to make the program on another machine. _________________ John 3:16 |

Basically you can compile Hollywood programs to any of the supported platforms by using any of them (cross-compiles on any platform), but with the two exceptions of Android and iOS, which require their own compilers on specific platforms.
"Normal" compiling doesn't require any particular compiler software, but is done with the main Hollywood executable. You use it to run or compile your scripts, and that works in the same way on all platforms.
See here for an example: Compiling a Script Last edited by jPV on 24-Sep-2019 at 01:43 PM.

I recently tested and tried to complie my apps (Amipad or WWTBAA) for Applet (arm) version just to see if it would load and how it would look on android via the Hollywood player on Android, it does'nt work, I have only got hollywood designer 4 and hollywood 5 so dont know if that is the reason.
Anyone know would I still be entitled to get the upgrade price from upgrading from version 5, and making things in hollywood designer will they work for android?
thanks. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

How many Hollywood Executables are there? :) The Manual talks about Amiga, Windows, Mac, and Linux as the development environment. Are there two executables for Windows, and Four for Linux and Two for Amiga OS, etc. _________________ John 3:16 |

The Manual on page 34 (6) gives me system requirements. There seems to be on a few executalbles, not one for each cpu/os.

It is normal that different CPU and OS combinations needs different executables, don't you think?
What is the reason of your "How many" question? If I say 42, will that satisfying? :) |

There are own Hollywood executables for each supported CPU architectures (except those two mobile ones). That makes it total 15 different exes (all that are listed at the Hollywood homepage + separate exes for 68k with or without FPU). So yes, Win32 and Win64 are separate exes, and installed by a separate installation package. Linux has four separate installation archives, which all contain different kind of executable, etc. Amiga compatible versions are in a single LHA, but separate CPU versions are in their own dirs there and the installer script takes care what version to install.Last edited by jPV on 25-Sep-2019 at 06:41 AM. Thanks, I was wondering if that was the case. I may get just the Win version, but would like to have all of them. _________________ John 3:16 |

Trying to think of how to ask the question. Wanting to know which machine to build up for this. _________________ John 3:16 |

| @amigang You need at least Hollywood 7.1 but better the last version8.0 to make the hwa or applet format to run it on Hollywood Player on Android. |

If I am guessing your question right, then by buying any version, for example Windows version of Hollywood, you will be able to make exes to any of the supported machines, minus the Android and iOS which have their own separate compilers.
But as example with windows, I can make exes to any Amiga and Amigalike OSes. |

I understand what you are saying. But, if I were to buy the Linux Version and had PPC Linux installed in a G5 Mac or X5000, I could just use the PPC exe to make software for other platforms?
What is the maximum number of Development Machines could I build considering each CPU and OS?

The Hollywood license is a personal license. You can install and program on as many machines as you use as long as it's you that uses them.
To answer your first question, it cross compiles from any architecture to any other with the exception of mobile platforms. Last edited by Samurai_Crow on 27-Sep-2019 at 04:41 AM.

Looking at the Hollywood's purchase page, you can't buy separate versions for each platform as a new customer anymore. It looks that it has reverted back to the old situation where you get all versions at the same price if you buy it as new. So no need to decide where you want to use it, you can do that everywhere :) Only platform specific upgrade offers are left if you have bought an earlier version.
And yes, PPC exe could compile programs for all other but those two mobile platforms. But if you're going to make MUI programs for Amiga with the MUIRoyale plugin (not with RapaGUI which also would allow that, but is a bit more limiting regarding that), testing might get a bit more difficult, because the MUIRoyale plugin is only available for Amiga platforms. Same for the Plananarama plugin, but otherwise plugns are available everywhere.

Documentation tells: "The full version of Hollywood may be installed on multiple computers as long as it is only used by the person who bought the license."Last edited by jPV on 27-Sep-2019 at 06:29 AM. Last edited by jPV on 27-Sep-2019 at 06:21 AM.

Sorry to everyone, for being a nag. That should cover everything. This is definitely a versatile programming package.

Yes it has grown up a beautiful multiplatform programming package, I would have never got anything more serious done without it, and at least I'd be stuck on pretty much one platform. Now the world is open if I want to release something for pretty much whatever platform :) And code done for any platform can easily enrich other "less interesting" platforms too.
Welcome if you join with us :) And see you at Hollywood forums too!Last edited by jPV on 27-Sep-2019 at 07:01 AM.
