I thought I would post a screenshot of a game I've been working on. I don't know if this is the right forum. I'm calling it NewCiv for now. I've spent A LOT of time on basic game mechanics. I've posted elsewhere that I wanted to write a Civilization-like game. This has diverged quite a bit and has turned into more of an adventure game. There is more focus on individual colonists (I guess that's what you would call them. Maybe treasure hunters is more accurate. ) It's a little like the settling of the New World, except this is a new planet.

In the screen shot there is a brown area in the upper right corner that is a mountain. I plan to improve terrain graphics quite a bit. The image labeled "Unit" is actually a new base and the "Unit Op" is the manager or mayor. This is how colony assets are described. The main objective at this point is to locate and exploit alien technology. The alien civilization is so old that the remains have been hidden by natural forces. The aptitude and level of training of individuals could of course play an interesting roll. For example, a farmer who has to operate an armored assault vehicle because there is no one else. Maybe all the soldier-types are away on other missions or been killed by aborigines. The probability of success is very dependent on the unit op. The unit op is the one in charge, who would be the most competent. There might be other individuals, but one must simplify. NewCiv has the usual resource, gold, and research production. Some tiles must be devoted to agriculture or mining. There can be multiple bases. This is a turn-based game with a player and three computer players. I've attempted other games that didn't amount to anything. This has aspects of all of them. The screen shot is actually in the "images" section. It was produced on a PC running Windows. The Amiga version looks the same. Visual C++ is the best platform I have for software development. This is just a hobby project, I don't plan on making any money. If somebody enjoyed it that would be reward enough.

I looked for it too. The photo feature doesn't seem to be working. I can only see one page of photos. Clicking "next" gets you a blank screen. Maybe the photos have to be reviewed. I posted it again.

Your photo is up now, sorry for the delay, but I'm not really moderating this site any more, or doing any of the maintenance tasks, but recently, I've approved a few things, just to help out the rest of the staff here.

The game is looking quite good.
Which platforms are you looking to release it on?
Do you have a timeline for a demo to test?

This is interesting! There hasn't been many ambitious game projects lately.

How can I see that screenshot?

It's in the "Image Album" of this forum site, so just click on the "More Images" text link, to be taken to the album and look for it there.

Nice work so far. What tools are you using to program with on the Amiga version?

@Plaz

I use Visual Studio 2008. It's over ten years old, but it still runs on Windows 10. It has excellent debugging tools. On the Amiga I use Cubic IDE. It hasn't been updated in decades. Installing it with the latest SDK is a challenge. I've developed a method of installing the individual parts that the installer messes up. It has many excellent features. I have a module that I wrote myself that translates Visual Studio function calls to Amiga function calls. It's just a matter of time before some future version of Windows makes VS 2008 stop working. Most new major Windows software use a rental scheme where you have to keep paying to use it. I don't have to pay. The platforms my game will be produced on are Amiga OS4.x and Windows 10. I may produce a demo without enemy AI. That's months away. I've already changed the main screen a lot since posting the screen shot. I'm working on a path-finding function now. When I play Civilization Six I get depressed because it is SO good. I haven't been playing it a lot. The current virus thing is giving me extra time to work on it. I work for the US Postal Service and they say they WON'T shut down. Things happen though. We also had an magnitude 5.7 earthquake with dozens of major aftershocks. That kept things exciting for a while.

Surely a Civilisation game is a strategy game not an adventure game? Just found a copy of Flight of the Amazon Queen, now that is a great adventure game! Why they didn't release an AGA version / CD32 talkie version is a mystery though.

@BigD

When I first started this project, I said I wanted to write a Civ-like game. That never was very accurate. What I meant is a game with Civ-like game play. To be perfectly honest I never get too far, I just enjoy the game play. A special challenge for me is that I'm just not very good at it. A civilization game by definition includes the entire time span of a civilization from stone age to space age (or some part of the time span). Then I elaborated and said the game was more like Alpha Centauri, which is a technology game. The reason it's a lot like an adventure game is because of the focus on individuals and quests or searches and maybe even clues. The only thing it has in common with a civilization game like Civ 6 is some of the game mechanics and the combat model. The combat model seems pretty simple. It's just comparing probabilities. Maybe it isn't an adventure game either.

It's on the right side of the main page above where the polls are found.
